Jogaraj-Guggulu is a traditional herbal formulation containing a combination of medicinal plants that may be used to support the management of rheumatoid and other inflammatory disorders. The therapeutic effects of the formulation are believed to result from the combined actions of various naturally occurring phytochemicals present in its ingredients.
Research suggests that guggulsterones E and Z from Commiphora mukul and piperine from Piper longum may contribute to its anti-inflammatory properties. Gallic acid found in Terminalia chebula and Terminalia belerica, along with ascorbic acid from Emblica officinalis, contributes to antioxidant activity.
Commiphora mukul:
Guggulu is an oleo-gum resin obtained from the stem of Commiphora mukul. Its guggulsterone E and Z constituents are associated with analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Guggulsterones may help reduce inflammation by inhibiting activation of the nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) pathway.
Plumbago zeylanicum:
This herb contains flavonoids that may interfere with prostaglandin production. By reducing inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and bradykinin, it may help relieve pain and inflammation. It may also help regulate excessive collagenase activity. Some studies have reported analgesic effects comparable to indomethacin.
Nigella sativa:
Nigella sativa contains thymoquinone, a compound associated with anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects. It may act on pain pathways and inflammatory mediators, with some research suggesting analgesic activity comparable to naproxen.
Vanda roxburghii:
This plant has traditionally been associated with relief of pain and inflammation. Compounds such as heptacosane and octacosane may contribute to its anti-inflammatory activity.
Zingiber officinale (Ginger):
Ginger contains gingerol, which has demonstrated anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. It may help reduce the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, substances involved in pain and inflammation.
Rock Salt:
Rock salt is included as part of the formulation and is traditionally considered a carrier or supportive ingredient that may assist the overall action of the herbal components.
