Myguard 5mg Nasal Spray

Migraine attacks are thought to be associated with dilation of cranial blood vessels and/or the release of sensory neuropeptides through nerve endings in the trigeminal system.

Zolmitriptan works primarily as an agonist at 5-HT1B and 5-HT1D serotonin receptors located on intracranial blood vessels and sensory nerves of the trigeminal system. Activation of these receptors causes constriction of dilated cranial blood vessels and inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory neuropeptides, thereby helping relieve migraine headache and associated symptoms.

Myguard is contraindicated in patients with:

• Ischemic coronary artery disease
• A history of stroke
• Concurrent use or recent use of a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor
• Known hypersensitivity to Zolmitriptan

Common adverse effects may include:

• Pain, pressure, or tightness in the neck, throat, jaw, or chest
• Dizziness
• Paresthesia (tingling or abnormal sensations)
• Weakness or asthenia
• Drowsiness
• Sensations of warmth or cold
• Nausea
• Heaviness sensation
• Dry mouth

Pregnancy: Zolmitriptan should be used during pregnancy only when the expected therapeutic benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.

Lactation: It is not known whether Zolmitriptan passes into human breast milk. A healthcare professional should determine whether breastfeeding should be discontinued or treatment should be stopped, considering the importance of the medicine to the mother.

Rare cases of serious cardiovascular reactions, including acute myocardial infarction, have been reported within several hours after administration of Zolmitriptan.

Patients may experience sensations of tightness, pain, or pressure in the chest, throat, neck, or jaw following treatment. Patients with cardiovascular risk factors should be appropriately evaluated before receiving triptan therapy.

If severe or persistent chest pain or other concerning cardiovascular symptoms occur, seek immediate medical attention.

Pediatric Use: The safety and effectiveness of Zolmitriptan in patients below 18 years of age have not been established. Therefore, its use is not recommended in this age group.
