Lunarzin 5 contains Flunarizine and belongs to the group of medicines called calcium channel blockers. It is commonly used to reduce migraine attacks and reduce their frequency and severity. In some cases, it may also be prescribed to manage vertigo or balance disorders, as advised by a doctor.
Flunarizine works by regulating blood flow in the brain and stabilizing nerve cell activity, which helps reduce the triggers that cause migraine attacks. It is not intended to manage an acute migraine once it has started, but rather to reduce how often and how severely migraines occur.
This medicine should be used with caution in people with a history of depression, Parkinson’s disease, liver or kidney problems, or allergies to Flunarizine. Inform your doctor before taking this medicine. It is not recommended for during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless advised by a doctor. It is also not recommended for children under 18 years unless prescribed by a healthcare professional.
Interaction:
Using Flunarizine together with oral contraceptive pills may result in hormonal interactions, particularly during the early stages of treatment.
Possible Effects:
In some women, this combination has been associated with galactorrhea (unexpected breast milk secretion), especially within the first two months of therapy.
Management:
Inform your healthcare provider if you are taking oral contraceptives before starting Flunarizine. Your doctor may monitor for symptoms and provide appropriate guidance if hormonal side effects occur.

Management:
Avoid or limit alcohol consumption while taking Flunarizine. Consult your doctor before combining it with sleeping pills, anti-anxiety medications, tranquilizers, or other sedative drugs, as dosage adjustments or additional monitoring may be required.
Initial Treatment
Treatment should be discontinued if depressive symptoms, extrapyramidal disorders (such as tremors or movement abnormalities), or other intolerable adverse effects occur. Patients who do not show meaningful improvement after two months of therapy are generally considered non-responders, and treatment should be stopped.
Maintenance Treatment
For patients who respond well and require ongoing preventive therapy, the same daily dose may be continued for five consecutive days each week, followed by two drug-free days. Even when effective and well tolerated, maintenance treatment should generally be stopped after six months and restarted only if migraine symptoms return.
