✔️ Ursocol (Ursodeoxycholic Acid) is indicated for the treatment of:

• Cholestasis (jaundice)
• Viral hepatitis
• Alcoholic fatty liver disease
• Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC)
• Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC)
• Dissolution of cholesterol gallstones
• Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)

✔️ Side Effects

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Pruritus (itching)
• Gallstone opacification

✔️ Ursocol is contraindicated in patients with:

• A non-functioning gallbladder
• Calcified gallstones
• Pigmented gallstones
• Certain inflammatory bowel conditions, where appropriate clinical assessment is required

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Ursodeoxycholic Acid has been used during pregnancy, including for cholestasis of pregnancy, under medical supervision. Available clinical experience has not established evidence of harm to the fetus. It should nevertheless be used during pregnancy only when prescribed by a healthcare professional.

No significant problems have been documented regarding breastfeeding, but medical advice is recommended before use during lactation.

✔️ Dosage & Administration

Dosage should be individualized according to the condition and prescribed by a physician.

• Dissolution of gallstones: 8–12 mg/kg/day, given as a single bedtime dose or in divided doses.
• Primary biliary cirrhosis: 10–15 mg/kg/day in 2–4 divided doses.
• Acute viral hepatitis: 600 mg/day.
• Alcoholic fatty liver disease: 300 mg/day.
• Primary sclerosing cholangitis: 25–30 mg/kg/day.
• Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH): 13–15 mg/kg/day.

✔️ Drug Interactions

Ursocol may interact with medicines that affect bile composition. Concomitant use with estrogenic hormones, which may increase cholesterol secretion into bile, should be used only under medical supervision.

Bile-acid-binding medicines and substances such as cholestyramine, activated charcoal, and certain antacids may reduce the absorption and effectiveness of Ursodeoxycholic Acid. These medicines should generally be taken separately as directed by a healthcare professional.

✔️ Safety Precautions

Ursocol should be used cautiously in patients with liver disease. Regular medical monitoring may be required depending on the underlying condition and duration of treatment.
