Meroclav 500/125mg Tablet

✔️ Meroclav is generally well tolerated. Common adverse effects may include:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhoea
• Abdominal discomfort or pain

Rarely, patients may experience:

• Allergic reactions
• Rash or itching
• Angioedema
• Anaphylaxis
• Urticaria
• Renal impairment
• Serum sickness-like reactions

Prolonged use may encourage overgrowth of resistant organisms.

✔️ Dosage & Administration

Adults and Adolescents (13 years and older):

• Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis: 250 mg twice daily for 5–10 days
• Acute Sinusitis: 250 mg twice daily for 10 days
• Chronic Bronchitis Exacerbation: 250–500 mg twice daily for 10 days
• Acute Bronchitis with Secondary Infection: 250–500 mg twice daily for 5–10 days
• Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: 250–500 mg twice daily for 10 days
• Urinary Tract Infections: 250 mg twice daily for 7–10 days
• Community-Acquired Pneumonia: 250–500 mg twice daily for 5–10 days
• MDR Typhoid Fever: 500 mg twice daily for 10–14 days
• Early Lyme Disease: 500 mg twice daily for 20 days
• Gonorrhoea: 1000 mg as a single dose

Children (3 months to 12 years):

• Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis: 20 mg/kg/day in two divided doses for 5–10 days
• Acute Otitis Media: 30 mg/kg/day in two divided doses for 10 days
• Acute Bacterial Sinusitis: 30 mg/kg/day in two divided doses for 10 days
• Impetigo: 30 mg/kg/day in two divided doses for 10 days

The tablet may be taken with or without food, although taking it with meals may improve gastrointestinal tolerance.

✔️ Drug Interactions

• Probenecid may increase blood levels of cefuroxime.
• Medicines that reduce stomach acidity can decrease cefuroxime absorption and reduce its effectiveness.

✔️ Use with caution in patients:

• Receiving potent diuretics
• With a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis

Patients should complete the entire prescribed course to reduce the risk of treatment failure and antibiotic resistance.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Although antibiotic use should generally be minimized during the first trimester, Meroclav may be used during pregnancy when clinically necessary. Small amounts pass into breast milk; therefore, infants should be monitored for possible sensitivity reactions during breastfeeding.

✔️ Meroclav should not be used in patients with:

• Known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or any component of the formulation
• History of pseudomembranous colitis associated with antibiotic use

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
