Meroclav combines Cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, with Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor.
Cefuroxime destroys bacteria by preventing the formation of their protective cell wall, resulting in bacterial death. Clavulanic acid inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria, protecting cefuroxime from degradation and extending its antibacterial activity against beta-lactamase-producing organisms.
