Aristomox contains amoxicillin, a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic. It is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible β-lactamase-negative microorganisms.
Amoxicillin is a broad-spectrum penicillin effective against a range of susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell-wall biosynthesis, ultimately causing bacterial cell death.
Amoxicillin is stable in gastric acid and is rapidly absorbed following oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are generally reached within approximately 1–2 hours after an oral dose. It is widely distributed throughout body tissues and fluids.
The usual adult dose is 250 mg three times daily. For severe infections, the dose may be increased to 500 mg three times daily, as directed by the physician.
Certain infections may require different dosing regimens:
The exact dose and duration should be determined by the treating physician according to the type and severity of infection.
For children up to 10 years of age, the usual dose is 125 mg three times daily, which may be increased to 250 mg three times daily for severe infections.
For certain infections, including otitis media, children may require weight-based dosing. The dose should be determined according to the child's body weight, age and clinical condition.
Dose adjustment may be necessary in patients with impaired kidney function. The dosage and dosing interval should be determined according to the degree of renal impairment.
Aristomox may generally be taken with or without food. Taking it with food may help reduce gastrointestinal discomfort.
For the oral suspension, prepare the suspension according to the manufacturer's instructions. Once reconstituted, the required dose may be mixed with a suitable amount of water, milk or fruit juice and should be consumed immediately.
Take the medicine at evenly spaced intervals and complete the prescribed treatment course unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Amoxicillin may be used during pregnancy when clinically indicated and prescribed by a physician. It crosses the placenta, but available human experience has not demonstrated a consistent increase in major birth defects.
Amoxicillin is excreted in breast milk in small amounts. It may generally be used during breastfeeding when clinically appropriate, but caution is advised, and the infant should be monitored for diarrhea, rash, or other unusual symptoms.
Keep in a dry place away from light and heat. Keep out of the reach of children.
