✔️ Dosage & Administration of Cavapro 300

Adults:

• Usual dose: 150 mg once daily (with or without food)
• Can be increased to 300 mg once daily for better control
• Initiation with 75 mg may be appropriate for elderly patients (≥75 years) or those on hemodialysis
• Combination with a thiazide diuretic (e.g., hydrochlorothiazide) enhances antihypertensive effect

Type 2 Diabetic Patients with Renal Disease:

• Start with 150 mg once daily, then titrate to 300 mg once daily for optimal renal protection

Elderly:

• No routine dose adjustment needed, but caution at initiation

Children & Adolescents:

• Not recommended due to lack of safety data

✔️ Side Effects of Cavapro 300

Common:

Headache, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, vomiting

Less Common:

Anxiety, GI discomfort, muscle pain, unusual tiredness

Cavapro has a low risk of cough, unlike ACE inhibitors.

✔️ Drug Interactions

• Diuretics: May cause hypotension due to volume depletion
• Potassium-sparing diuretics/supplements: Risk of hyperkalemia
• Lithium: May increase lithium toxicity — avoid or monitor closely
• NSAIDs (including COX-2 inhibitors): May reduce the antihypertensive effect
• No interaction with warfarin, digoxin, or hydrochlorothiazide observed

✔️ Contraindications

• Pregnancy (especially 2nd and 3rd trimesters)
• Use with aliskiren in diabetic patients with renal impairment (GFR <60 ml/min)

✔️ Use in Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy: Contraindicated, especially in later trimesters due to the risk of fetal toxicity and death
• Lactation: Not recommended; unknown if excreted in human milk

✔️ Use with caution in:

• Patients with renal artery stenosis, aortic or mitral valve stenosis, or obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
• Volume-depleted patients (risk of hypotension)
• Patients with renal impairment or on hemodialysis
• Risk of hyperkalemia, especially in those with diabetic nephropathy, renal dysfunction, or on potassium-sparing agents
• Women and non-white patients may show less favorable outcomes in renal studies
