How does Winolip EZ Tablet work?

Winolip EZ Tablet is a combination of two different medications (Bempedoic acid + Ezetimibe) used to lower cholesterol levels. Here's how each component works:

Bempedoic Acid:

• Inhibits an enzyme called ATP citrate lyase.
• ATP citrate lyase is involved in cholesterol synthesis in the liver.
• By inhibiting this enzyme, Bempedoic acid reduces cholesterol production in the liver.

Ezetimibe:

• Blocks the absorption of cholesterol from the small intestine.
• Reduces the overall delivery of cholesterol to the liver.
• Promotes the synthesis of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptors.

Combination Effect:

• Bempedoic acid and Ezetimibe, when used together, provide a dual mechanism of action.
• By inhibiting cholesterol synthesis in the liver and reducing cholesterol absorption from the intestine, the combination lowers overall cholesterol levels in the body.

Quick Suggestions:

• Take Bempedoic acid after a meal or with a snack to avoid gastrointestinal problems.
• Inform your doctor if you experience fatigue, muscle weakness, or muscle or joint pain.
• Your doctor may check your liver function before starting the treatment and regularly thereafter. Inform them if you notice signs of liver problems, such as stomach pain, unusually dark urine, yellowing skin, or eyes.
• Lifestyle changes, like a low-fat and salt diet, exercise, not smoking, and cutting down on the amount of alcohol you normally drink, may help this medication work better.

Indications:

Winolip EZ180mg + 10mg is indicated as an adjunct to diet and maximally tolerated statin therapy for the treatment of adults with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia or established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease who require additional lowering of LDL-C.

Pharmacology

• Bempedoic Acid:
  • Acts as an adenosine triphosphate-citrate lyase (ACL) inhibitor.
  • Lowers LDL-C by inhibiting cholesterol synthesis in the liver.
  • Upregulates low-density lipoprotein receptors, resulting in decreased cholesterol synthesis and lower LDL-C levels.
• Ezetimibe:
  • Inhibits cholesterol absorption, reducing overall cholesterol delivery to the liver.
  • Promotes the synthesis of LDL receptors, leading to a subsequent reduction of serum LDL-C.

Dosage & Administration of Winolip EZ Tablet

Administer Bempedoic Acid 180 mg & Ezetimibe 10 mg tablet orally once daily with or without food. The safety and effectiveness of this tablet have not been established in pediatric patients.

Interaction

• Simvastatin: Avoid concomitant use with simvastatin greater than 20 mg.
• Pravastatin: Avoid concomitant use with pravastatin greater than 40 mg.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to ezetimibe tablets.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Discontinue Bempedoic Acid & Ezetimibe when pregnancy is recognized unless the benefits of therapy outweigh the potential risk to the fetus. Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment.

Precautions & Warnings

• Monitor uric acid levels periodically.
• Assess for signs and symptoms of hyperuricemia.
• Discontinue at the first sign of tendon rupture.
• Avoid in patients with a history of tendon disorders or tendon rupture.
