✔️ Side Effects | Febus 80

Common: Gout flares, diarrhea, nausea, headache, liver enzyme abnormalities, rash, edema.

Rare but serious: Severe hypersensitivity reactions, cardiovascular thromboembolic events.

✔️ Dosage & Administration | Febus 80

Gout (chronic management):

• Start with 40 mg once daily.
• If the target uric acid level <6 mg/dL is not achieved after 2 weeks, increase to 80 mg daily.
• If inadequate after 2–4 weeks, may increase to 120 mg daily.

Tumor Lysis Syndrome (TLS):

• 120 mg once daily.
• Start 2 days before cytotoxic therapy and continue for at least 7 days (up to 9 days depending on chemotherapy).
• Renal impairment: No adjustment needed for mild to moderate impairment.
• Hepatic impairment: No adjustment needed for mild to moderate impairment.
• Pediatric use: Not established in patients <18 years.

✔️ Drug Interactions

Contraindicated: Azathioprine, mercaptopurine, theophylline (risk of toxicity).

Caution with:

• NSAIDs, probenecid (may affect metabolism).
• Potent UGT inducers (may reduce efficacy).
• Antacids (delay absorption, but no major clinical impact).

Safe co-administration: Colchicine, indomethacin, hydrochlorothiazide, warfarin, rosiglitazone.

✔️ Contraindications:

Concomitant use with azathioprine, mercaptopurine, or theophylline.

Known hypersensitivity to febuxostat.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy: Category C – Use only if benefits outweigh potential risks.

Lactation: Unknown if excreted in breast milk; use caution in nursing mothers.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Gout flares: Common at treatment initiation; prophylaxis with NSAIDs or colchicine recommended for up to 6 months.
• Cardiovascular risk: Higher rate of MI and stroke compared to allopurinol; monitor high-risk patients.
• Liver function: Periodic LFT monitoring advised due to risk of elevated transaminases.

• Sore below 30°C in a cool, dry place.
• Protect from light and moisture.
• Keep out of reach of children.
