Naftifine is a synthetic allylamine antifungal that inhibits the enzyme squalene monooxygenase. This inhibition reduces the synthesis of ergosterol, a primary sterol in the fungal membrane, leading to its fungicidal and fungistatic effects.
For topical/cutaneous skin fungal infections in adults, apply naftifine hydrochloride cream once daily or gel twice daily, in the morning and evening. The treatment duration varies:
Apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected areas, extending to a half-inch margin of healthy surrounding skin.
No interactions were found or established.
Naftifine is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to the medication.
Pregnancy Category B. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies of Naftifine Cream in pregnant women. Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response, Naftifine Cream should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
Nursing Mothers: It is not known whether this drug is excreted in human milk. Because many drugs are excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when Naftifine Cream is administered to a nursing woman.
Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth, and other mucous membranes. Do not use occlusive dressings or wrappings. Discontinue use if irritation occurs. Use with caution during pregnancy and lactation.
