Indication of Oxifun 1% Cream

Pharmacology

The topical preparation of this medication includes the active ingredient oxiconazole nitrate, which is a type of antifungal agent. It is intended for use on the skin only. Oxiconazole nitrate belongs to the imidazole group of compounds and works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a crucial component of fungal cell membranes. This results in the destruction of the cell membrane and stops the growth and spread of fungal infections. Oxiconazole nitrate has been shown to be effective against a variety of pathogenic fungi in both laboratory and clinical settings. These include Epidermophyton floccosum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton rubrum, and Malassezia furfur. Additionally, oxiconazole has demonstrated satisfactory minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) in vitro against Microsporum, Microsporum canis, Microsporum gypsum, and Trichophyton violaceum.

Dosage & Administration of Oxifun 1% Cream

This topical medication contains oxiconazole nitrate and is used to treat fungal skin infections such as athlete's foot, jock itch, ringworm, and pityriasis versicolor. It works by inhibiting ergosterol biosynthesis, which is important for cell membrane integrity. The medication should be applied once or twice a day to the affected area and surrounding skin for 2 weeks (except for tinea pedis, which should be treated for 1 month) as directed by the physician. Hands should be washed after applying the medication, and it should not come into contact with mucous membranes or be used with occlusive dressings. The medication should be used for the full treatment time, and the physician should be notified if symptoms do not improve or worsen. Any signs of increased irritation, itching, burning, blistering, swelling, or oozing should also be reported to the physician.
