✔️ Indication of Ambrox:

Ambrox is a medication that contains the active ingredient ambroxol, which is a mucolytic agent. Ambroxol works by thinning and loosening the mucus in the respiratory tract, making it easier to cough up and clear out of the lungs. This can help to relieve symptoms such as cough, congestion, and difficulty breathing. Ambroxol may also have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that can help to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in the respiratory tract.

✔️ Pharmacology of Ambrox:

Ambroxol is a mucolytic agent that acts on the respiratory tract by modifying the physicochemical properties of mucus. It works by breaking down the structure of mucus, reducing its viscosity, and making it easier to cough up and clear out of the lungs.

In addition to its mucolytic properties, ambroxol has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. 

Ambroxol is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and reaches its peak plasma concentration within 1-3 hours after oral administration. It is extensively metabolized in the liver and excreted mainly in the urine. The elimination half-life of ambroxol is about 7-12 hours, and the drug is generally well-tolerated with a low incidence of adverse effects.

✔️ Dosage and Administration of Ambrox:

• Adults: daily dose of 30 mg (one Ambroxol tablet ) to 120 mg (4 Ambroxol tablets) taken in 2 to 3 divided doses
• Children up to 2 years: half a teaspoonful Ambroxol syrup twice daily
• Children 2 - 5 years: half a teaspoonful Ambroxol syrup 3 times daily
• Children over 5 years: One teaspoonful Ambroxol syrup 2-3 times daily.

✔️ Contraindications

While there are no contraindications that absolutely prohibit the use of ambroxol, patients with gastric ulceration should be cautious when taking this medication.

The safety of ambroxol during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your healthcare provider before taking this medication.
