Indications

Psyllium Husk is used to treat:

• Constipation
• Indigestion

Composition

Psyllium Husk contains Ispaghula husk, a dietary fibre derived from the seed coat of the plant Plantago ovata Forssk.

Medicinal Benefits

Side Effects

Generally, ISPAGHULA HUSK is safe to use, but some may experience:

• Wind (flatulence)
• Bloating due to sudden increase in fiber intake
• Skin rash, runny or itchy nose if exposed to the husks on the skin or through inhalation

Pharmacology

When mixed with water, Fibosyl Effervescent Powder forms a gel-like substance that passes through the digestive system and increases the water content in the stools. This gel increases bowel movements and lubricates the intestine, facilitating the easy passage of stools.

Form:

• Granules/Powder: Dissolve the contents in a full glass of water or other liquids as suggested by your doctor, stir thoroughly, and drink immediately, preferably after meals. If left to stand, the mixture may become too thick; add more liquid if necessary.
• Capsule: Take the capsule as directed by your physician. Swallow it whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break it.
• Wafers: Chew the wafer thoroughly before swallowing.
• Drink/Liquid: Shake the bottle well before use. Measure the recommended dose using the measuring cup/dosing syringe/dropper provided with the pack.

Usual dose:

• 1 spoonful 1-3 times daily or as per doctor's advice.
• An additional glass of water is helpful after taking this gel.

Adults and children over 12 years:

1 spoonful with water 2 times daily or as per doctor's advice.

Children 6 to 12 years:

½ to 1 spoonful with water, depending on age and size, in the morning and at bedtime or as per doctor's advice.

Children below 6 years:

Not recommended except as directed by the physician.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

Psyllium Husk can be used with proper consultation and caution.

Children:

Not recommended for children below six years of age.

Administration

1. Take one spoonful with the provided spoon.
2. Put the husk into an empty glass.
3. Fill the glass with water (150 ml or 2/3 of the glass), stir, and drink immediately

Medication and Supplement Disclosure:

Inform your doctor if you are using any other medications, herbal products, or vitamin supplements before taking Psyllium Husk.

Pre-existing Conditions:

Let your doctor know if you have any of the following conditions before starting Psyllium Husk:

• Stomach or intestinal blockage
• Appendicitis
• Swallowing problems
• Rectal bleeding
• Diabetes
• Phenylketonuria (increased levels of phenylalanine)
• Reduced bowel movements

Precautions & Warnings

• Psyllium Husk must be taken with enough liquid to prevent difficulty swallowing, chest pain, and vomiting.
• If you need to take Psyllium Husk at night, ensure you drink a proper amount of liquid at least one hour before bed to avoid gut blockage or swallowing problems during sleep.
• Your doctor may recommend Psyllium Husk to alleviate constipation caused by the baby's presence in the womb.
• Breastfeeding women can use Psyllium Husk with proper consultation and caution.
• Psyllium Husk is not recommended for children below six years of age.
• Intake of probiotics, prebiotics, and plenty of fluids is recommended for those suffering from indigestion.
