Appras 5 contains prasugrel, an antiplatelet (blood-thinning) medication that helps prevent the formation of harmful blood clots. It is commonly prescribed to patients who have recently experienced a heart attack or severe chest pain and have undergone coronary stent placement. By improving blood flow, it reduces the risk of future cardiovascular events such as a heart attack or stroke.
It is often prescribed along with aspirin for enhanced protection. The medicine can be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day. Continuous use is essential, even if symptoms improve, as stopping it may increase the risk of serious cardiac events.

Adults:
- Initial (loading) dose: 60 mg once
- Maintenance dose: 10 mg once daily for up to 12 months (with aspirin)
Special populations:
- Elderly (>75 years): 5 mg once daily
- Low body weight (<60 kg): 5 mg once daily
- Severe hepatic impairment: contraindicated
Renal impairment:
- No dose adjustment required
Take the tablet whole with water. Do not crush, chew, or break it.
✔️ How does Appras 5 work?
Prasugrel is a prodrug that becomes active in the body and irreversibly inhibits platelet activation. It blocks the P2Y12 ADP receptor on platelets, preventing their aggregation and reducing clot formation.
✔️ Side Effects
Common:
- Bleeding (e.g., bruising, nosebleeds, blood in urine or stool, prolonged bleeding)
Less common:
- Anemia
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Shortness of breath
- Nausea
- Back pain
Rare but serious:
- Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP)
