✔️ Pharmacokinetics

After oral administration, tamsulosin is well absorbed and reaches peak blood levels within:

• 4–5 hours when taken on an empty stomach
• 6–7 hours when taken with food

The medication is extensively bound to plasma proteins and is primarily metabolized in the liver. Less than 10% is eliminated unchanged through the urine.

✔️ How Uropass Works

Tamsulosin selectively blocks alpha-1A receptors found in the prostate and bladder neck. This action relaxes the smooth muscles in these areas, making it easier for urine to pass through the urinary tract. As a result, urinary flow improves, and BPH symptoms are reduced.

✔️ Dosage and Administration

Recommended Dose:

• 0.4 mg once daily (one capsule), taken after the evening meal.

If symptoms do not improve sufficiently, the dose may be increased after 2–4 weeks to:

• 0.8 mg once daily (two capsules)

Administration Instructions:

• Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water.
• Take the capsule while sitting or standing.
• Do not crush, chew, or open the capsule, as this may affect the controlled-release mechanism.

If treatment is interrupted for several days, therapy should generally be restarted at the 0.4 mg daily dose.

✔️ Uropass should not be used in individuals who have:

• Hypersensitivity to tamsulosin or any ingredient in the formulation
• A history of orthostatic hypotension
• Severe liver impairment

✔️ Possible Side Effects

Most side effects are mild and temporary. Reported adverse effects include:

Common Side Effects

• Dizziness
• Abnormal ejaculation

Less Common Side Effects

• Headache
• Weakness or fatigue
• Postural (orthostatic) hypotension
• Palpitations

Seek medical advice if side effects persist or become troublesome.

✔️ Uropass may interact with certain medications, including:

• Other alpha-1 blockers (may increase the risk of low blood pressure)
• Cimetidine (may increase tamsulosin levels)
• Furosemide (may decrease tamsulosin levels)
• Diclofenac
• Warfarin (may increase elimination of tamsulosin)

No significant interactions have been observed with:

• Atenolol
• Enalapril
• Nifedipine

Always inform your healthcare provider about all medicines you are taking.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Uropass is intended for the treatment of BPH in men and is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

✔️ Overdose

An overdose may lead to significantly low blood pressure. Symptoms may include:

• Severe dizziness
• Fainting
• Rapid or slow heartbeat

Treatment is primarily supportive and may include:

• Lying the patient flat
• Monitoring blood pressure and heart function
• Intravenous fluids or vasopressors if required

Because tamsulosin is highly protein-bound, dialysis is unlikely to be effective.

✔️ Precautions and Warnings

Before starting treatment, patients should be evaluated to rule out other conditions that may produce symptoms similar to BPH. This may include:

• Digital rectal examination (DRE)
• Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) testing

Blood Pressure Effects

Tamsulosin may occasionally cause a drop in blood pressure, particularly when standing up. Symptoms may include:

• Dizziness
• Lightheadedness
• Weakness
• Fainting (rare)

If these symptoms occur, sit or lie down until they resolve.

Patients should exercise caution when:

• Driving
• Operating machinery
• Performing tasks that require alertness
