✔️ Uses

• Asthma
• Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

✔️ Dosage & Administration

Inhalation Aerosol (Inhaler)

Adults & Adolescents (12+ years):

• 2 puffs of either:
  • 25 µg Salmeterol + 50 µg Fluticasone Propionate
  • 25 µg Salmeterol + 125 µg Fluticasone Propionate
  • 25 µg Salmeterol + 250 µg Fluticasone Propionate
• Taken twice daily

Children (4-12 years):

• 2 puffs of 25 µg Salmeterol + 50 µg Fluticasone Propionate
• Taken twice daily

Inhalation Powder (Capsule Form, for Asthma & COPD)

Adults & Adolescents (12+ years):

• Salmeterol 50 µg + Fluticasone 100 µg or
• Salmeterol 50 µg + Fluticasone 250 µg
• Twice daily (morning and evening, ~12 hours apart)
• Maximum dose: Salmeterol 50 µg + Fluticasone 500 µg twice daily

Children (4-11 years):

• Salmeterol 50 µg + Fluticasone 100 µg
• Twice daily (morning and evening)

For COPD (Adults only):

• Salmeterol 50 µg + Fluticasone 250 µg
• Twice daily (morning and evening)

✅ Important Note: Rinse the mouth after each use to prevent oral infections like thrush.

✔️ Side Effects

The side effects may arise from either Salmeterol or Fluticasone:

Salmeterol-related Side Effects

• Tremors
• Palpitations
• Headache
• Cardiac arrhythmia (atrial fibrillation, tachycardia)
• Muscle cramps
• Oropharyngeal irritation
• Hypersensitivity reactions (rash, swelling, angioedema)

Fluticasone-related Side Effects

• Hoarseness
• Oral thrush (candidiasis)
• Skin hypersensitivity reactions
• Rare cases of facial swelling or throat edema

📌 Preventing Side Effects: Rinse the mouth with water after each inhalation.

✔️ Proper Use of Inhaler

• Shake the inhaler well before each use (at least six times).
• If not used for a week or longer, test spray one puff into the air before use.
• Exhale fully before placing the inhaler in the mouth.
• Inhale deeply & slowly while pressing the canister.
• Hold breath for 10 seconds, then exhale.
• Wait 1 minute between puffs if taking multiple doses.
• Rinse mouth after use to prevent side effects.

📌 Cleaning Instructions:

• Clean the inhaler at least once a week.
• Remove the canister and rinse the plastic actuator under warm water.
• Dry it completely before reassembling.

✔️ Drug Interactions

• Avoid β-blockers (both selective & non-selective), as they may interfere with the effectiveness of Seretide.
• CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, ritonavir) may increase systemic exposure to Fluticasone Propionate.

✔️ Contraindications

Patients with known hypersensitivity to any component of Seretide.

✔️ Use During Pregnancy & Lactation

• Only recommended if the benefits outweigh potential risks to the fetus or child.
• There is insufficient human data on its safety during pregnancy or lactation.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Consider additional corticosteroid therapy if an infection is present.
• Caution in tuberculosis (active or latent).
• Use cautiously in patients with thyroid disorders (thyrotoxicosis).

✔️ Storage Instructions

• Store below 30°C.
• Keep away from heat, sunlight, and moisture.
• Do not puncture, break, or incinerate the canister.
• Keep out of children’s reach.
