✅ Description:
Ketorif (Ketotifen) is indicated for:
- Prophylactic management of bronchial asthma
- Relief of allergic symptoms such as rhinitis and conjunctivitis
- Symptomatic treatment of allergies including hay fever and urticaria
- Reduction of itching, pain, and tenderness associated with neurofibroma

✔️ Dosage & Administration
Adults: 1 mg twice daily with food. In severe cases, the dose may be increased to 2 mg twice daily.
Children (over 3 years): 1 mg twice daily with food. If sedation occurs, start with 0.5–1 mg at bedtime for a few days.
Elderly: Same as adult dosage or as directed by a physician.
✔️ Side Effects
Common: Drowsiness, mild dizziness, dry mouth — usually subside after a few days.
Rare: Headache or mild gastrointestinal disturbances.
✔️ Interactions
May enhance the sedative effects of alcohol, antihistamines, sedatives, or hypnotics.
A reversible drop in platelet count has been observed when used with oral antidiabetic drugs — avoid concurrent use.
✔️ Contraindications
Concomitant use with oral antidiabetic medications should be avoided due to possible platelet count reduction.
Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as safety data are insufficient.
✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation
Although no teratogenic effects have been reported, Ketotifen use is not advised during pregnancy and lactation.
✔️ Precautions & Warnings
- Continue existing asthma therapy for at least two weeks after starting Ketorif to prevent asthma exacerbation.
- Caution in patients with steroid dependency due to possible adrenal insufficiency.
- Avoid alcohol and operating machinery until the individual's response is known.
- If infection occurs, add appropriate antimicrobial treatment.
- Potentiates the sedative effects of alcohol and CNS depressants.
