How does Brodil Levo HFA Inhaler work?

Brodil Levo is a beta-2 agonist that stimulates receptors in bronchial smooth muscles, leading to the relaxation of airway muscles. This results in effective bronchodilation, improving airflow.

Side Effects of Brodil Levo HFA Inhaler

• Common side effects include palpitations, fine muscle tremors, muscle cramps, nervousness, headache, and dizziness.
• Hypokalemia may occur, especially with high doses.
• Symptoms of overdose include exaggerated side effects like excessive β2 receptor stimulation.
• Treatment includes discontinuation and possibly using a cardioselective beta-receptor blocker.

• If you need to use the inhaler more than 3 times a week, your asthma might not be well-controlled, and you should consult your doctor.
• Dry mouth is a common side effect. Gargling with warm water, maintaining oral hygiene, and increasing water intake can help.

Instructions for Use:

1. Shake the inhaler well.
2. Breathe out completely, place the mouthpiece between your teeth, and press down on the inhaler while inhaling deeply.
3. Hold your breath for 10 seconds and then exhale.
4. Rinse your mouth with water after use to prevent fungal infections.

Pharmacology

• Active Ingredient: Levosalbutamol, the (R)-enantiomer of racemic salbutamol, is a selective β2 adrenergic receptor agonist.
• Mechanism of Action: It activates β2 receptors on airway smooth muscle, increasing cyclic AMP levels. This leads to the relaxation of smooth muscles in the airways, reducing bronchoconstriction.

Dosage & Administration of Brodil Levo HFA Inhaler

Take 1-2 puffs up to 4 times daily, with no more than 8 puffs in 24 hours. For asthma prevention, take 2 puffs 15 minutes before exercise or exposure to allergens.

Children: Doses vary depending on age, with 1-2 puffs for inhalers or 0.31 mg for nebulizers three times daily for younger children.

Interaction

• Beta-Blockers: Can counteract the effects of Levosalbutamol and may cause bronchospasm.
• Diuretics: Hypokalemia can worsen with beta-agonist use.
• Digoxin: Monitor serum digoxin levels during concurrent use.
• MAOIs/Tricyclic Antidepressants: Use with caution due to potential cardiovascular effects.
