Pharmacology

Cotson 100 mg/2 ml, a naturally occurring corticosteroid, induces significant metabolic changes and influences the body's immune response to various stimuli. Cotson 100 mg/2 ml sodium succinate shares similar metabolic and anti-inflammatory properties with Cotson 100 mg/2 ml.

Mode Of Action:

• Inhibits prostaglandin synthesis, controls the rate of protein synthesis, and reduces various vasoactive agents released during inflammation.

Dosage & Administration of Cotson 100 mg/2 ml:

For adults, the initial dose is 100 mg to 500 mg by IM injection or slow IV injection or infusion, depending on the severity of the condition. Dosage may be repeated at intervals of 2, 4, or 6 hours as indicated by the patient's response. For children, dosage varies based on age.

Side Effects of Cotson 100 mg/2 ml:

• Side effects include cardiac arrhythmia, esophageal candidiasis, menstrual irregularity, decreased carbohydrate & glucose tolerance, fluid retention, increased appetite, weight gain, mood changes, insomnia, and acne.

Interaction of Cotson 100 mg/2 ml:

Drugs that induce hepatic enzymes may increase corticosteroid clearance, while drugs like Troleandomycin and Ketoconazole may inhibit metabolism, requiring dose adjustment to avoid toxicity.

Contraindications:

Cotson 100 mg/2 ml is contraindicated in severe systemic fungal infections and hypersensitivity to any component of the product.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

• Pregnancy category C. Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Use caution during lactation due to potential adverse effects on nursing infants.

Precautions & Warnings:

• Use caution in elderly patients, starting at the low end of the dosing range due to a lack of clinical studies in this population.
• Use with caution in patients with a history of peptic ulceration, congestive heart failure, hypertension, glaucoma, diabetes mellitus, and epilepsy.

• Store below 30°C, away from light & moisture, and keep out of the reach of children.
