How to use Biltin 20

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Biltin 20 is to be taken empty stomach.

How Biltin 20 works

Biltin 20 is an antiallergic medication. It treats allergy symptoms such as itching, swelling, and rashes by blocking the effects of a chemical messenger (histamine) in the body.

• You are much less likely to feel drowsy compared to other similar drugs.
• Be aware that driving or any activity that requires concentration can cause dizziness and drowsiness.
• Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine as it may increase drowsiness.
• Stop taking Biltin 20 at least 3 days before taking an allergy test, as it may affect test results.

Indication of Biltin 20mg

 Biltin 20mg tablets belong to a group of medicines known as antihistamines. Used to treat allergy symptoms such as runny nose, nasal congestion, sneezing, watery eyes, congestion, and congestion. 

Pharmacology

Bilastine is a non-sedating, long-acting histamine antagonist with a strong affinity for peripheral H1 receptors but no affinity for muscarinic receptors. After a single dose of Bilastine, histamine-induced wheels, and erythema are suppressed for 24 hours.  

Dosage and Administration of Biltin 20mg

Adults & adolescents (12 years of age and over): 

• Tablets 20 mg once daily for the symptomatic relief of allergic rhinitis, urticaria, and allergic rhinitis.
• The maximum recommended daily dose is 20 mg of Bilastine (1 tablet) and should not be exceeded.
• If a dose is missed, the next scheduled dose should be taken.
• An additional dose should not be taken.
• Bilastine 20 mg (1 tablet) should be swallowed once daily with water on an empty stomach to achieve optimal exposure to Bilastine.

Children between 6 to 11 years: 

• 10 mg oral soluble tablets for the symptomatic relief of allergic rhinitis, allergic rhinitis, and urticaria.
• The soluble tablets are for oral use only. It must be placed in the mouth.
• It disperses rapidly in saliva and can be easily swallowed. Alternatively, the dissolving tablet may be dispersed in the mouth in a teaspoon of water before giving it to the child to swallow.
• The maximum recommended daily dose for children 6 to 11 years of age is 10 mg of Bilastine orally disintegrating tablet (1 tablet) and this dose should not be exceeded.
• If a dose is missed, the next scheduled dose should be taken. An additional dose should not be taken.

Interaction of Biltin

Bilastine C max was improved when co-administered with ketoconazole, erythromycin, or diltiazem. The psychomotor performance of those who drank alcohol and Bilastine at the same time was identical to that of those who drank alcohol and a placebo. Bilastine and lorazepam 3 mg taken together for 8 days did not increase the CNS depressant effects of lorazepam. 

Contraindications

Bilastine is not recommended for people who are hypersensitive to the active ingredient or any of the tablet's excipients.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy

• There is no or little information about Bilastine's use in pregnant women. In terms of reproductive toxicity, parturition, or postnatal development, animal studies show no direct or indirect adverse effects. It is best to avoid using Bilastine during pregnancy as a preventative step.

Lactation

• Bilastine excretion in milk has not been examined in humans. The benefits of breastfeeding for the infant and the benefits of Bilastine therapy for the mother must be considered while making a decision.

Precautions & Warnings

In patients with moderate or severe renal impairment, co-administration of Bilastine and P-glycoprotein inhibitors (e.g. Ketoconazole, Erythromycin, Cyclosporine, Ritonavir, or Diltiazem) should be avoided.
