Baclovan is indicated for

• Pain
• Chronic muscle spasticity
• Multiple sclerosis
• Spasm
• Stiffness
• Low back pain

Precautions and warnings

Cerebrovascular illnesses, epilepsy, severe psychotic disorders, confessional states, peptic ulcer history, mental depression, diabetes (DM), hepatic or renal impairment, the elderly, and pregnancy are all factors to consider. Excessive withdrawal should be avoided.

• Enuresis. Potentially Fatal: Respiratory or CV depression
• Seizures.

Drug Interactions

Antihypertensive may augment the hypotensive impact. In Parkinson's patients, taking levodopa at the same time might cause disorientation, agitation, and hallucinations.

CNS depressants and alcohol may increase CNS effects, making them potentially fatal.

Contraindications

Active peptic ulcer disease causes hypersensitivity.

Mode of actions

Baclofen is an antispasmodic medication. At the spinal level, it inhibits both monosynaptic and polysynaptic responses.

Dosage & Administration

Oral
Severe chronic spasticity
Adult: Initially, 5 mg tad for 3 days increased to 10 mg tid for 3 days, then in similar increments and intervals until either 20 mg tid is reached or until desired effect is obtained. Max: 100 mg daily.
Child: 0.75-2 mg/kg daily. May initiate with 2.5 mg 4 times daily, increased gradually every 3 days until desired effect is obtained. Maintenance: 6-10 yr: 30-60 mg daily; 2-6 yr: 20-30 mg daily; 12 mth-2 yr: 10-20 mg daily. Max: >10 yr: 2.5 mg/kg daily.
Elderly: Initiate with lower doses.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Although animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, but during pregnancy, this medicine can be used just when definitely required despite potential risks.

Mothers with a newborn baby who have used this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy may seldom create symptoms including drowsiness, muscle stiffness or shakiness, feeding or breathing troubles, constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms of your baby's particularly during their first month, tell the doctor immediately.

This medicine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
