How Acliz PLUS Tablet works?

Meclizine + Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) is a combination of two medicines: Meclizine and vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) which treat nausea and vomiting associated with pregnancy. Meclizine is an antihistamine that works by blocking the action of a chemical messenger (histamine), thereby controlling nausea, vomiting, and dizziness. Pyridoxine (vitamin B6) is a form of vitamin B which possesses anti-nausea properties.

Quick Suggestions:
  • Meclizine + Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) helps treat nausea and vomiting in pregnant women.
  • Take it on an empty stomach with a glass of water.
  • Meclizine + Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) may cause dizziness. Do not drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you.
  • Do not take Meclizine + Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) with other sedating medications such as those for cough and cold as the combination could worsen dizziness leading to falls or other accidents.
  • Do not take Meclizine + Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) while breastfeeding.
Indications of Acliz PLUS Tablet

Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, motion sickness, radiation sickness, and vertigo are symptoms of illnesses of the vestibular system (e.g., Meniere's syndrome, labyrinthitis, and other vestibular abnormalities) that can be prevented and treated.

Pharmacology

Meclizine is a medication that belongs to the class of antihistamines and is derived from piperazine. It is commonly used to treat nausea and vomiting, and it possesses antiemetic, anticholinergic, and antihistaminic properties. It functions by reducing the sensitivity of the labyrinthine apparatus. Its mode of action may be through various pathways, including neuronal pathways from the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) to the vomiting center (VC), peripheral nerve pathways to the VC, or another central nervous system (CNS) centers.

Vitamin B6, also known as pyridoxine, is added to meclizine as a supplement to enhance its antiemetic properties. It is also a food supplement.

Dosage and Administration of Acliz PLUS Tablet

The recommended dosages for adults and children 12 years of age and over for various conditions are:

  • Nausea and vomiting: 25-50 mg daily or as directed by a physician.
  • Motion sickness: Take an initial dose of 25-50 mg, 1 hour prior to travel. May repeat the dose every 24 hours for the duration of the journey.
  • Radiation sickness: 50 mg administered 2-12 hours prior to radiation treatment.
  • Vertigo: 25-100 mg daily in divided doses.
  • Prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with emergency contraceptive pill (ECP): 25-50 mg, 1 hour before first ECP dose; repeat if needed in 24 hours.

It is important to note that the safety and efficacy of this medication for use in children less than 12 years of age have not been established. The dosage should be adjusted according to individual patient needs and response to treatment. It is recommended to consult a physician before taking this medication.

Take Acliz PLUS Tablet as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicines with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your physician will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight, and disease condition.

Interaction

It is important to avoid the concurrent use of Meclizine with CNS depressants such as ethanol, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, tricyclic antidepressants, opiate agonists, skeletal muscle relaxants, and antihistamines as it can potentiate the CNS depressive effects of Meclizine. The anticholinergic effects of Meclizine can also be amplified if taken with other anticholinergics. Additionally, Meclizine can reduce gastrointestinal motility, which may improve digoxin absorption. Therefore, it is essential to inform the doctor about all the medicines, supplements, and herbal products you are taking before starting Meclizine.

Contraindications

Meclizine Hydrochloride and Pyridoxine Hydrochloride should not be used in patients who have a known hypersensitivity or allergy to either of these ingredients. Patients with a history of allergic reactions to other antihistamines or vitamin B6 supplements should also avoid taking this medication. It is important to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new medication to discuss any potential contraindications or allergies.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Meclizine Hydrochloride and Pyridoxine Hydrochloride are classified as Pregnancy Category B, which means that animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus, but there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.

However, clinical experience and human investigations on a large scale have found no negative effects on the fetus. Meclizine has been indicated as the medicine of choice for treating nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, based on available data, because it has the lowest risk of teratogenicity.

As for breastfeeding, it is not known whether Meclizine Hydrochloride and Pyridoxine Hydrochloride are excreted in human milk. Therefore, caution should be exercised when administering this medication to a breastfeeding woman. It is advisable to consult with a healthcare provider before using this medication while breastfeeding.

Precautions & Warnings

Meclizine Hydrochloride and Pyridoxine Hydrochloride are contraindicated in patients with prostate hypertrophy, obstruction of the bladder neck, narrow-angle glaucoma, and pyloric stenosis. The medication may impair the ability to drive or operate machinery, and caution should be exercised in such situations. Its safety during pregnancy is established as pregnancy category B, while it is not known whether the medication is excreted in breast milk or not, and thus caution is advised when administering it to lactating mothers. this tablet is not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age as safety and efficacy data are not established. Contact the child’s doctor for advice.

Storage Conditions

Keep below 30°C temperature, away from light & moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
