Used to treat:
helps in treating scabies and head lice by acting on the nerve cells of the disease-causing organism and alters the movements of certain ions (sodium ions) which leads to loss of their function. This causes respiratory failure of the disease-causing organism and hence, their destruction.
Elimate Plus Lotion contains Permethrin which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-parasitic agents. It is indicated for the treatment of scabies, pediculosis (lice), and crab louse infections. Crotamiton belongs to two classes of medicines called antipruritics and scabicides. It works by killing the mites, which cause scabies.
Permethrin is a medication that belongs to the pyrethroid class of drugs and is used to treat infestations of lice and scabies by paralyzing and killing these pests through the limitation of sodium ion intake through nerve cell membrane channels. On the other hand, Crotamiton has antipruritic and scabicidal properties and is effective against Sarcoptes scabei, as well as being a useful pediculicide.
To use the lotion, make sure that your skin is clean and dry. If your body is warm due to a hot bath or other reasons, wait until your skin has cooled down before applying the lotion. Apply the lotion to your entire body except for your head. After 8-12 hours, wash your whole body thoroughly. Wash your clothes and bed sheets with warm water on the following day. Reapply the lotion if it is washed off by water. Other family members should use the lotion as a preventative measure in the same way to avoid the highly contagious effects of scabies. Do not apply the lotion near your mouth or close to your eyes.
It is recommended to avoid using corticosteroids to treat eczematous-like symptoms before using permethrin because it may increase the risk of worsening the scabies infestation by reducing the immune response to the mite. There is a possibility of drug interactions between these two medications, which could potentially lead to more severe side effects or reduced effectiveness.
The combination of permethrin 5% and crotamiton 10% is contraindicated in patients who have a known hypersensitivity to either of these medications.
Permethrin and crotamiton are not suggested during pregnancy since there is no evidence of their safety, especially in the first three months. It's unclear whether the active ingredient makes it into breast milk. It's best to avoid using it on the nipples if you're nursing.
Store at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C). Keep all medications away from children and pets.
Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed.
