- Tropicamide: Blocks muscarinic (M4) receptors in the eye's muscles, inhibiting the iris sphincter and ciliary muscles. This causes pupil dilation (mydriasis) and ciliary muscle paralysis (cycloplegia).
- Phenylephrine Hydrochloride: A selective alpha-1 agonist that induces pupil dilation (mydriasis) without affecting accommodation (cycloplegia). It also reduces intraocular pressure by vasoconstriction.

- Trophen is for external use only.

Tropicamide may interfere with the antihypertensive effects of carbachol, pilocarpine, or ophthalmic cholinesterase inhibitors.
