Epinastine is an antihistaminic medication. It treats allergy symptoms such as itching, swelling, and rashes by blocking the effects of a chemical messenger (histamine) in the body.
Common side effects may include mild burning sensation, folliculitis, hyperemia, pruritus, cold symptoms, and upper respiratory infections.
Epinast 0.05% Sterile Ophthalmic Solution is used to treat the signs and symptoms of allergic conditions in the front part of the eye. It is a locally effective antihistamine that works by blocking histamine receptors and stabilizing mast cells, which helps prevent the release of inflammatory substances from blood vessels. Epinastine does not cross the blood-brain barrier, so it is not expected to cause central nervous system side effects.
Epinastine is a potent local antihistamine that blocks both H1 and H2 histamine receptors. Additionally, it stabilizes mast cells, preventing the release of inflammatory mediators from blood vessels. Importantly, Epinastine does not penetrate the blood-brain barrier, minimizing the likelihood of central nervous system side effects.
The recommended dosage is to instill 1 drop into the affected eye(s) twice daily. Epinast 0.05% Sterile Ophthalmic Solution is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age. It should be used with caution in children and adolescents aged 12 years and older.
No interactions found/established.

Epinastine should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks to the fetus. It's unclear whether Epinastine passes into breast milk, so caution is advised when using it while nursing.
