Tenoxicam Tablet works by inhibiting enzyme which is responsible for pain in the body.

✔️ Side Effects of Tenoxim 20mg Tablet

• Common: Vomiting, Nausea, Stomach pain, Indigestion, Diarrhea.
• Other: Dyspepsia, abdominal pain, constipation, flatulence, headache, dizziness, allergic reactions, rash, decreased Hb, anemia, thrombocytopenia, increased serum transaminase levels, blurred vision, eye irritation, malaise, tinnitus, edema, hypertension, cardiac failure.
• Potentially Fatal: Peptic ulceration, GI bleeding, anaphylaxis, Lyell's syndrome, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, exfoliative dermatitis, nephrotoxicity, arterial thrombotic events (e.g., MI or stroke), hepatitis, jaundice.

✔️ Indications:

Tenoxim 20 mg is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of the following painful inflammatory and degenerative disorders of the musculoskeletal system:

1. Rheumatoid Arthritis
2. Osteoarthritis
3. Arthrosis
4. Ankylosing Spondylitis
5. Extra-articular Disorders:
   • Tendinitis
   • Bursitis
   • Periarthritis of the shoulders (shoulder-hand syndrome) or hips
   • Strains and Sprains
6. Acute Gout

✔️ Pharmacology

• Tenoxicam is a potent inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis by blocking the enzyme cyclo-oxygenase.
• Additional actions include inhibition of leucocyte function (phagocytosis and chemotaxis) and scavenging free O2 radicals.
• No significant effect on renal function at usual doses.

✔️ Dosage & Administration:

For All Indications (except primary dysmenorrhea, post-operative pain, and acute gout):

• Usual Recommended Dose: 20 mg once daily.
• Take at the same time of day.

For Rheumatoid Arthritis:

• Usual Recommended Dose: 20 mg once daily.
• Take it at night to relieve morning stiffness.

For Primary Dysmenorrhea:

• Recommended Dose: 20 to 40 mg once daily.

For Post-operative Pain:

• Recommended Dose: 40 mg once daily.
• Duration: Up to five days.

For Acute Attacks of Gout:

• Recommended Dose: 40 mg once daily for two days, followed by 20 mg once daily for a further five days.

Administration:

• Should be taken with food. Take with or immediately after meals.

• Increased risk of adverse effects (particularly GI) with salicylates and other NSAIDs.
• May enhance the anticoagulant effect of warfarin and other anticoagulants.
• May reduce the effect of antihypertensive drugs.
• Increased risk of nephrotoxicity with ciclosporin.
• Increased risk of convulsions with quinolones.
• May decrease the elimination of lithium.
• May interfere with the natriuretic action of diuretics.
• May enhance the toxicity of methotrexate.
• May reduce the effects of mifepristone.
• Increased risk of GI bleeding with corticosteroids.

✔️ Contraindications

Active or history of recurrent GI bleeding or peptic ulcer, hypersensitivity to NSAIDs, severe heart failure, hemorrhagic diathesis, asthma, pregnancy (3rd trimester).

• Patients with a history of or active bronchial asthma, uncontrolled hypertension, congestive heart failure, established ischemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, cerebrovascular disease, risk factors for cardiovascular disease (e.g., hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, smoking), history of gastrointestinal disease, fluid retention, and edema.
• Patients who will undergo major surgery (e.g., joint replacement).
• Elderly.
• Renal and hepatic impairment.
• Monitoring Parameters: Monitor renal, hepatic, and cardiac functions.
