Vitamin E serves as an antioxidant in the body, protecting polyunsaturated fatty acids (which are integral to cellular membranes) and other oxygen-sensitive substances, such as vitamins A and C, from oxidation. In premature infants, a deficiency in Vitamin E may lead to irritability, edema, thrombosis, and hemolytic anemia. In adults and children, low serum tocopherol levels have been associated with creatinuria, ceroid deposition, muscle weakness, decreased red blood cell survival, or increased hemolysis by oxidizing agents.
Diarrhea and abdominal pain may occur with doses exceeding 1000 IU da
Liqu-E may hinder the absorption of Vitamins A and K and can enhance the effects of Warfarin.
Liqu-E is contraindicated for individuals with known hypersensitivity to Vitamin E. It should also be avoided by patients with rare hereditary disorders such as fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or sucrose-isomaltase insufficiency.
There is insufficient evidence regarding the safety of high doses of Vitamin E during pregnancy; hence, it is advised not to use it, especially in the first trimester. Additionally, there is no information available on its excretion in breast milk, so caution is recommended during lactation.
Transient gastrointestinal disturbances can occur with doses greater than 1000 IU daily; general supportive measures should be employed as needed.
Liqu-E has been reported to increase the bleeding tendency in patients with Vitamin K deficiency or those on anticoagulant therapy; thus, monitoring prothrombin time and international normalized ratio (INR) is advisable to detect any changes in coagulation status. It may also heighten the risk of thrombosis in predisposed patients, particularly in women taking estrogen-containing oral contraceptives.
Store in a dry place, away from light and heat, and keep out of reach of children.
