Itrazole 100 mg Capsule is an antifungal medicine containing Itraconazole, used to treat a wide range of fungal infections in the body. It works by inhibiting the enzymes essential for fungal cell membrane formation, leading to disruption of fungal growth and ultimately killing the fungus.

Itraconazole blocks the synthesis of ergosterol, a key component of fungal cell membranes. This weakens and damages the fungal cells, causing leakage of cell contents and eventual fungal cell death.

Warnings & Precautions

Liver disease: Use with caution; long-term therapy may require liver function monitoring.

Kidney disease: Use carefully in patients with renal impairment.

Heart conditions: Caution in patients with heart failure or related cardiac disorders.

Pregnancy & breastfeeding: Not recommended unless specifically advised by a doctor.

Children (<12 years) & elderly patients: Generally not recommended, except under medical supervision.

Avoid alcohol during therapy.

Do not drive or operate heavy machinery if experiencing dizziness, blurred vision, or hearing issues.

Side Effects

Common:

Serious (seek medical advice immediately):

Numbness, tingling, or weakness in limbs

Signs of liver damage: severe fatigue, abdominal pain, yellowing of skin/eyes (jaundice), dark urine, pale stools, loss of appetite

Contraindications

Allergy to itraconazole or any capsule component

Severe liver failure

Severe heart disease (especially congestive heart failure)

Concurrent use with certain interacting drugs (see below)

Drug Interactions

Itrazole has multiple drug interactions. Inform your doctor if you are taking:

Allergy medicines: terfenadine, astemizole, ebastine, mizolastine

Cholesterol-lowering drugs (statins): simvastatin, lovastatin, atorvastatin

Anti-arrhythmic drugs: quinidine, dofetilide, dronedarone

Migraine drugs: ergotamine, eletriptan, dihydroergotamine

Blood thinners: warfarin, dabigatran, rivaroxaban, ticagrelor

Immunosuppressants: cyclosporine, tacrolimus, sirolimus

HIV medicines: ritonavir, darunavir, saquinavir

Tuberculosis medicines: rifampicin, rifabutin, isoniazid

Anti-epileptics: phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarbital

Stomach acid medicines: omeprazole, pantoprazole, H2 blockers, antacids

Other interacting drugs include fentanyl, colchicine, sildenafil, quetiapine, St. John’s Wort, and many more.
