Indications
This nasal spray is indicated for the prevention and treatment of allergic rhinitis (such as hay fever and perennial rhinitis) when it is accompanied by nasal congestion.
Pharmacology
Xylometazoline hydrochloride is a sympathomimetic with alphaadrenergic activity. It produces vasoconstriction thus relieving nasal congestion. This helps the patient with a cold to breathe more easily through the nose.
Sodium cromoglicate generally acts by a local effect on the nasal mucosa. It prevents the release of mediators of typel allergic reactions, including histamine and delayed anaphylaxis (SRSA) by sensitized mast cells after conjugation of antibiotics and antibodies. The drug does not inhibit the binding of IgE and specific antigens; instead, it prevents the release of substances (eg, histamine, SRSA) in response to this reaction. The drug also inhibits type III reactions (late allergies, Arthers) to a lesser extent.
Dosage
Adults (including the elderly) and children: One spray each nostril four times daily.
Administration
How to use
Nasal spray Gently shake the bottle and remove the dust cover.
Place your index finger and middle finger on either side of the nozzle and place your thumb under the bottle. Press until a fine spray appears. If this is the first time you use it, or if you have not used it for a week or more, press the nasal applicator several times until a small amount of water comes out of the container.
Gently blow your nose to clear your nostrils.
Close one nostril and carefully insert the nasal applicator into the opened nostril. Tilt your head slightly forward and keep the spray upright. Inhale through your nose, and while inhaling, firmly press the white neck of the nasal applicator once to release the spray.
Exhale through your mouth.
Repeat the above steps in the same or another nostril for continuous administration.
Cleansing:
The nasal spray cleanses at least once a week. The steps are as follows:
Remove the dust cover.
Gently pull down on the nasal applicator.
Clean applicator and dust cover with lukewarm water.
Shake off excess water and place in a normal place to dry. Avoid applying additional heat.
Gently push the applicator back to the top of the bottle and replace the dust cap.
