Zolidon contains linezolid, an oxazolidinone antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections. It is effective against several Gram-positive bacteria and is commonly prescribed for pneumonia, skin and soft tissue infections, and infections caused by vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE). It is not recommended for treating Gram-negative bacterial infections.
Linezolid works by blocking bacterial protein synthesis. It binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit and prevents formation of the bacterial 70S initiation complex, an essential step in protein production. This action stops bacterial growth and helps clear the infection.
