✔️ Dosage & Administration |Revaccination:

Routine revaccination is not advised for healthy adults or children.

A second dose may be considered for high-risk individuals after at least 5 years, especially those with conditions like asplenia or nephrotic syndrome.

Revaccination within 3 years is not recommended due to a higher incidence of adverse effects.

✔️ Side Effects

Commonly reported side effects include:

Injection site reactions: pain, swelling, redness (up to 60%)

Systemic symptoms: headache (17.6%), fatigue or weakness (13.2%), and muscle pain (11.9%)

✔️ Drug Interactions

Can be given simultaneously with the influenza vaccine, but at separate injection sites using different needles.

✔️ Avoid administration in:

Individuals allergic to any vaccine component.

Those with fever, acute infections, or during the acute phase of chronic illness.

Individuals with uncontrolled epilepsy or progressive neurological disorders.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Insufficient data from animal studies on reproductive toxicity.

Use during pregnancy only if needed.

Unknown if excreted in human milk; exercise caution when administering to lactating mothers.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

Delay vaccination in cases of significant fever or infection unless the delay poses a greater health risk.

• Never administer intravascularly or intradermally to avoid adverse reactions.
• Immunocompromised patients may have a weakened response, and the vaccine may not provide full protection in all cases.
• Anaphylaxis readiness: Epinephrine should be available during administration.
• Pneumococcal vaccination does not replace the need for prophylactic antibiotics in high-risk individuals.
• Patients at elevated risk (e.g., those without a spleen or undergoing immunosuppression) should be advised to seek early medical attention in case of fever or severe illness.
• Effectiveness in cases like basilar skull fractures or CSF leaks is uncertain.
