Pharmacology

Azithromycin is a type of antibiotic known as a semisynthetic azalide. It works by blocking a process called transpeptidation. This occurs by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible organisms, disrupting RNA-dependent protein synthesis during the chain elongation step. In simpler terms, azithromycin interferes with the production of proteins needed for bacteria to grow and survive, ultimately inhibiting their ability to cause infection.

Dosage & Administration of Odazyth 500mg Tablet

Adult Dose:

• For respiratory tract infections and skin and soft tissue infections: 500 mg once daily for 3 days.
• For chancroid, non-gonococcal cervicitis/urethritis due to Chlamydia trachomatis, uncomplicated genital infections due to Chlamydia trachomatis: 1 g as a single dose.
• Prophylaxis of disseminated MAC infections: 1.2 g once weekly.
• Treatment or secondary prophylaxis of mycobacterial infections: 500 mg once daily in combination with other antimycobacterial.
• Uncomplicated gonorrhea: 2 g as a single dose.
• Granuloma inguinale: Initial dose of 1 g, followed by 500 mg/day until all lesions have completely healed.
• Active immunization against typhoid fever caused by Salmonella typhi: 1 g once daily for 5 days.
• Community-acquired pneumonia: 500 mg as a single IV dose for 2 days, followed by 500 mg as a single oral dose daily to complete 7-10 days of therapy.
• Pelvic inflammatory disease: 500 mg as a single IV dose for 1-2 days, followed by 250 mg as a single oral dose daily to complete a 7-day therapy.
• No dosage adjustment is needed for the elderly or patients with hepatic impairment.

Child Dose:

• The dosage varies depending on the condition and weight of the child. It is generally administered once daily for a specified number of days.

Renal Dose:
