Doxy A 100mg Tablet 1 Strip

✔️ Doxy A is indicated for:

• Bacterial infections
• Acne and rosacea
• Syphilis
• Uncomplicated gonorrhea
• Chlamydial infections
• Relapsing fever
• Louse-borne typhus
• Scrub typhus
• Malaria prevention
• Cholera
• Anthrax post-exposure prophylaxis
• Various rickettsial infections and other susceptible bacterial diseases

✔️ Doxycycline may interact with:

• Antacids containing aluminum, calcium, or magnesium
• Iron and zinc supplements
• Bismuth-containing medicines
• Penicillin antibiotics
• Warfarin and other anticoagulants
• Oral contraceptives
• Rifampicin, phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarbital, and primidone
• Cyclosporine
• Isotretinoin

Important: Concurrent use with methoxyflurane may cause severe kidney toxicity and should be avoided.

✔️ Side Effects

Frequently reported side effects include:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Headache
• Abdominal discomfort
• Skin rash
• Increased sensitivity to sunlight

Serious Side Effects

Although uncommon, serious reactions may occur, including:

• Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
• Stevens-Johnson syndrome
• Toxic epidermal necrolysis
• Liver toxicity
• Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea
• Blood disorders such as anemia or neutropenia
• Increased intracranial pressure
• Severe skin reactions and photosensitivity

✔️ Doxy A should not be used in patients with:

• Allergy to doxycycline or other tetracyclines
• Severe liver disease
• Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)
• Pregnancy, unless clearly necessary and prescribed by a physician

✔️ Dosage & Administration

Adult Dosage

General infections:

• 200 mg on the first day (single or divided doses), followed by 100 mg once daily.
• Severe infections may require 200 mg daily throughout treatment.

Selected indications:

• Chlamydia and uncomplicated gonorrhea: 100 mg twice daily for 7 days.
• Early syphilis (penicillin-allergic patients): 100 mg twice daily for 2 weeks.
• Late syphilis: 100 mg twice daily for 4 weeks.
• Acne/Rosacea: 50 mg daily for 6–12 weeks.
• Malaria prevention: 100 mg daily starting 1–2 days before travel and continuing during travel and for 4 weeks after leaving the endemic area.
• Anthrax exposure: 100 mg twice daily for 60 days.

Pediatric Dosage

For children older than 8 years and weighing less than 45 kg:

• 2–4 mg/kg/day in two divided doses.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

• Doxycycline is generally avoided during pregnancy unless the expected benefits outweigh potential risks.
• The drug passes into breast milk, and prolonged exposure may affect nursing infants. Medical advice should be sought before use during breastfeeding.

✔️ Safety Information:

• Use cautiously in patients with liver impairment.
• Avoid excessive sunlight and use protective clothing and sunscreen.
• Tetracyclines can cause permanent tooth discoloration if used during late pregnancy, infancy, or in children under 12 years.
• Breastfeeding is generally not recommended during prolonged treatment.
• Inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking before starting therapy.
