How does Dydroton 25mg Tablet work?

Chlorthalidone works by increasing the excretion of water and sodium from the kidneys. This helps in controlling the blood pressure as well as reducing swelling due to fluid build-up.

• Watch your sodium intake because it may lead to a sudden drop in blood sodium levels.
• Regularly monitor your blood pressure after starting Dydroton 25mg Tablet, and inform your doctor if it doesn't decrease.
• If you experience persistent dizziness, fatigue, or muscle weakness, notify your doctor.

Indication

Pharmacology

Chlortalidone is an oral, long-acting antihypertensive/diuretic that enhances the excretion of sodium and chloride ions and water by interfering with the transport of sodium ions across the renal tubular epithelium. The primary action is at the cortical diluting segment in the nephron of the loop of Henle.

Dosage & Administration of Dydroton 25mg Tablet

Adult Dose:

• Hypertension: 25-100 mg/day PO; usual range, 12.5-25 mg/day
• Edema: 50-100 mg/day PO or 100 mg PO every other day; not to exceed 200 mg/day
• Heart Failure: 12.5-25 mg/day PO; not to exceed 100 mg/day

Renal Dose:

• Renal impairment CrCl <10 mL/min: Ineffective; do not use CrCl >10 mL/min: Dose adjustment not necessary

Should be taken with food. Take during meals.

Interaction

• NSAIDs antagonize hypotensive action.
• Suppresses the action of oral anticoagulants.
• Increased risk of hypokalemia when corticosteroids are given concurrently.
• Potentially Fatal: Potentiates bone marrow suppression caused by anticancer drugs.
• Diuretic-induced volume depletion can potentiate aminoglycoside nephrotoxicity.
• Impairs the action of oral hypoglycemic agents.
• Enhances digitalis toxicity due to hypokalemia.
• Volume depletion enhances lithium toxicity, and conversely, sudden withdrawal of diuretics may result in subtherapeutic levels of circulating lithium.
• May prolong paralysis with tubocurarine due to hypokalemia.

Contraindications

• Severe renal impairment or anuria.
• Severe hepatic impairment, Addison's disease, preexisting hypercalcemia, asthma, hypersensitivity, severe allergy.
• Pregnancy and lactation.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Chlorthalidone should not be used as first-line therapy to treat hypertension in pregnancy. It may increase the risk to the fetus and is associated with various fetal and neonatal risks.

Precautions & Warnings

• Existing fluid and electrolyte disturbances, hepatic cirrhosis, severe heart failure, hyperuricemia, and mild to moderate renal impairment.
• Monitor fluid and electrolyte balance.
• Kidney or liver disease; diabetes; gout; hyperlipidemia; and ventricular extrasystoles.
• Lactation: Drug enters breast milk; not recommended.

Store Dydroton 25mg Tablet at room temperature in a cool and dry place. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
