Pantex 40 is a proton pump inhibitor used to treat acid-related gastrointestinal disorders. It effectively reduces excess stomach acid, providing relief from acidity, heartburn, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It also promotes healing of stomach and duodenal ulcers, manages Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and prevents ulcer formation caused by long-term painkiller (NSAID) use.
Pantoprazole works by selectively inhibiting the gastric proton pump (H+/K+ ATPase), which blocks the final step of acid secretion in the stomach, resulting in long-lasting acid suppression.
Provides relief from acidity & heartburn – Reduces gastric acid to ease reflux and chest burning.
Supports ulcer healing – Promotes recovery of stomach and duodenal ulcers.
Manages GERD effectively – Prevents damage to the esophageal lining and relieves symptoms.
Helps heal esophagitis – Reduces acid irritation, allowing inflamed esophageal tissue to recover.
Prevents NSAID-induced ulcers – Protects the stomach from damage caused by long-term painkillers.
Improves quality of life – Reduces discomfort, enhances digestion, and improves sleep and daily activities.
Common (1–10%):
Serious (rare):
Warfarin: Increased bleeding risk → monitor INR.
Methotrexate (high dose): Risk of toxicity.
Antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole): Reduced absorption.
HIV drugs (atazanavir, nelfinavir, rilpivirine): Decreased effectiveness – avoid.
Digoxin: Risk of toxicity.
Iron supplements, Ampicillin: Reduced absorption.
Pantoprazole targets and blocks the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme (proton pump) in gastric parietal cells. By irreversibly binding to this enzyme, it prevents the final step of hydrochloric acid secretion. This leads to sustained acid reduction for more than 24 hours, even after the drug is cleared from the bloodstream.
Rule out gastric malignancy before use.
Caution in severe liver disease.
Long-term use may increase risk of osteoporosis, fractures, low magnesium, and vitamin B12 deficiency.
Inform your doctor if you are taking HIV medicines (atazanavir, nelfinavir, rilpivirine) or methotrexate.
Pregnancy & lactation: Use only if clearly needed, after consulting a doctor
Store in a cool, dry place, away from light and moisture.
Keep out of reach of children.
