Indications of Marlox 400
Dyspepsia, heartburn, acid indigestion, sour stomach, gastroesophageal reflux, hiatal hernia, and flatulence can all be relieved by magaldrate. It's also used to treat hyperacidity caused by peptic ulcers, gastritis, or esophagitis. If necessary, magaldrate can be given to children.
Pharmacology
Magaldrate is a hydroxymagnesium aluminate complex that is rapidly transformed to Mg(OH)2 and Al(OH)3, which are poorly absorbed and give a long-lasting antacid action.
Dosage & Administration of Marlox 400
Tablet: 1-3 tablets, after meals and at bed time or as directed by the physician.
Syrup: 2 to 3 teaspoonful, 3 or 4 times daily, half to one hour after or before meal and at bedtime.
Contraindications
Patients who have a known intolerance to magnesium or aluminum should avoid magaldrate. It's also not recommended for people who have kidney problems.
Side Effects of Marlox 400
Constipation and diarrhea are possible side effects.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Magaldrate may be taken during pregnancy if appropriate, although excessive dosage should be avoided.
Magaldrate may enter into breast milk, however it has not been shown to cause problems in nursing babies.
