Salmolin Metered-Dose Inhaler Refill

✔️ Dosage & Administration

Salmolin should only be administered by oral inhalation and the inhaler should be shaken well before each use.

For acute bronchospasm relief:

• Adults: 1–2 puffs as needed, up to a maximum of 8 puffs per day.
• Children: Usually half the adult dose.

For prevention of allergen- or exercise-induced bronchospasm:

• Adults: 2 puffs approximately 15 minutes before exercise or exposure to a trigger, not exceeding 2 puffs four times daily.
• Children: Half the adult dose.

For long-term treatment:

• Adults: Up to 2 puffs (200 mcg) four times daily.
• Children: Up to 2 puffs (200 mcg) four times daily.

✔️ Side Effects

Most patients tolerate Salmolin well. Possible side effects include:

• Tremors
• Nervousness or anxiety
• Headache
• Muscle cramps
• Palpitations
• Mild increase in heart rate
• Fast heartbeat (tachycardia)
• Irregular heart rhythms
• Mouth or throat irritation

✔️ To ensure effective delivery of medication:

1. Remove the cap.
2. Shake the inhaler vigorously at least six times.
3. If unused for a week or more, release one test spray into the air.
4. Exhale fully.
5. Place the mouthpiece between your teeth and seal your lips around it.
6. Inhale slowly and deeply while pressing down on the canister.
7. Remove the inhaler and hold your breath for about 10 seconds if comfortable.
8. Wait one minute before taking another puff if prescribed.
9. Replace the cap and rinse your mouth after use.

Check your technique occasionally in a mirror. If a mist escapes from your mouth or the sides of the inhaler, repeat the process carefully.

Cleaning: Clean the inhaler at least once a week. Remove the metal canister, wash the plastic parts with warm water, dry thoroughly, and reassemble. Never immerse the metal canister in water.

✔️ Use with caution in patients with:

• Diabetes
• Hyperthyroidism
• Seizure disorders
• Increased sensitivity to sympathomimetic drugs

High doses may worsen diabetes control and increase the risk of ketoacidosis.

✔️ Interaction

• Avoid using Salmolin with non-selective beta-blockers such as propranolol, as they may reduce its effectiveness.
• Salbutamol may increase the risk of low potassium levels, especially when used with diuretics, corticosteroids, xanthine derivatives, or during severe asthma attacks.
• Potassium monitoring may be necessary in high-risk patients.

✔️ Contraindications

Salmolin should not be used in individuals with a known allergy to salbutamol or any of the inhaler's ingredients.

✔️ Safety Information:

Paradoxical Bronchospasm
Rarely, Salmolin may cause worsening airway narrowing immediately after use. If this occurs, discontinue the inhaler and seek medical attention.

Cardiovascular Effects
Salbutamol may affect heart rate, blood pressure, and ECG findings. Patients with heart disease, arrhythmias, hypertension, or coronary artery disease should use it cautiously.

Allergic Reactions
Serious allergic reactions including rash, hives, swelling, bronchospasm, or anaphylaxis may occur. Stop treatment and seek immediate medical care if these develop.

• Store below 30°C.
• Protect from direct sunlight and excessive heat.
• Do not freeze.
• Do not puncture, crush, or burn the canister, even when empty.
• Keep away from the eyes and out of the reach of children.
• Use only under the prescription of a registered healthcare professional.
