Indications
The loratadine pill works rapidly and effectively to reduce the signs and symptoms of chronic urticaria, seasonal allergic rhinitis, and permanent allergic rhinitis. Additionally, it aids in easing the symptoms of allergic rhinitis, including sneezing, nasal discharge, itching, ocular irritation, and burning. The signs and symptoms of nasal and ocular administration are immediately relieved orally. Loratadine pills are also used to treat idiopathic urticaria. Children over the age of two who have seasonal allergic rhinitis and allergic skin conditions like urticaria and nettle rash can be treated with loratadine pills.
Pharmacology
This pill contains a formulation of loratadine. Loratadine is a non-sedative histamine Hr receptor antagonist used to treat allergic reactions. With no sedative or anticholinergic effects, loratadine is a long-acting tricyclic antihistamine with selective peripheral Hi-receptor antagonistic activity. It is easy to administer once every day because it acts rapidly and lasts for a long time.
Dosage & Administration
Interaction
No information about potentially harmful drug interactions has been reported. Psychomotor performance studies have shown that loratadine, unlike many other histamine H1 receptor antagonists, has no potentiating effects when paired with alcohol. Medications that inhibit or are metabolized by hepatic cytochromes P450 3A4 and 2D6 may be increased in plasma concentrations during concurrent therapy, which can have adverse effects. Cimetidine inhibits both enzymes, whereas erythromycin or ketoconazole inhibits P450 3A4. The blood loratadine levels are increased by these drugs, although there are no known adverse consequences.
Contraindications
Terbinafine tablets and creams are contra-indicated in individuals hypersensitive to terbinafine. Patients who have proven hypersensitivity or idiosyncrasy to their components should avoid loratadine.
Side Effects
The incidence of adverse events, such as drowsiness and anticholinergic symptoms, recorded with 10 mg of Loratadine was equivalent to that observed with placebo in controlled clinical investigations. Loratadine's effect on real driving performance, as well as assessments of cognitive and psychomotor functioning, has been found to be comparable to a placebo in studies.
Pregnancy & Lactation
There is no evidence that Loratadine has been used in human pregnancy. As a result, it is not recommended for usage during pregnancy. Only a minor amount of loratadine is secreted in breast milk. As a result, it is not recommended that nursing mothers take the medicine.
Precautions & Warnings
Caution should be taken in patients with liver impairment or renal insufficiency (eGFR <30 ml/min).
Storage Conditions
Keep in a dry place away from light and heat. Keep out of the reach of children.
