✔️ Dosage & Administration

Allergic Rhinitis

Adults & children (12+ years):

• 60 mg twice daily, or
• 120 mg once daily, or
• 180 mg once daily
• Renal impairment: 60 mg once daily

Children (6–11 years):

• 30 mg twice daily, or
• 60 mg once daily
• Renal impairment: 30 mg once daily

Children (2–11 years):

• 30 mg (5 ml suspension) twice daily
• Renal impairment: 30 mg (5 ml) once daily

Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria

Adults & children (12+ years):

• 60 mg twice daily, or
• 120 mg once daily, or
• 180 mg once daily
• Renal impairment: 60 mg once daily

Children (6–11 years):

• 30 mg twice daily, or
• 60 mg once daily
• Renal impairment: 30 mg once daily

Children (6 months to <2 years):

• 15 mg (2.5 ml suspension) twice daily
• Renal impairment: 15 mg (2.5 ml) once daily

Children (2–11 years):

• 30 mg (5 ml suspension) twice daily
• Renal impairment: 30 mg (5 ml) once daily

1. Renal impairment: Start with 60 mg once daily
2. Hepatic impairment: No significant dose adjustment required
3. Elderly: Generally well tolerated, but absorption may be increased

✔️ Side Effects

• Headache, drowsiness, dizziness
• Nausea
• Fatigue
• Allergic reactions (e.g., angioedema, dyspnea, anaphylaxis)
• Sleep disturbances, vivid dreams
• Fast or irregular heartbeat
• Rash, itching, urticaria
• Diarrhea

✔️ Drug Interactions

Fexofenadine is not metabolized by the liver, reducing potential drug interactions. Concurrent use with erythromycin or ketoconazole may elevate fexofenadine plasma levels 2–3 times without QT prolongation or additional side effects. No interaction with omeprazole was observed. However, antacids containing aluminum or magnesium may lower absorption; separate administration by at least 2 hours is recommended.

✔️ Contraindications

Not for use in individuals with known hypersensitivity to fexofenadine or any of its components.

✔️ Use in Pregnancy & Lactation

• Insufficient human data on safety during pregnancy. Use only if necessary.
• Fexofenadine may pass into breast milk, thus not recommended for nursing mothers.

✔️ Precautions

• Use with caution in elderly or renally impaired patients due to altered pharmacokinetics.
• Patients with cardiovascular conditions should be aware of possible tachycardia or palpitations associated with antihistamines.
• Axodin is unlikely to impair alertness or motor skills. However, individual response should be evaluated before operating machinery or driving.

✔️ Storage

Store in a dry, cool place, away from heat and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
