Uses of Sultolin Syrup

It is used in adults and in children (aged between 2-12 years) to treat and prevent:

• Asthma
• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
• Chronic bronchitis (inflammation of the bronchus)
• Bronchospasm and emphysema (shortness of breath)
• Wheezing.

How does Sultolin Syrup work?

Sultolin Syrup is a bronchodilator. It relaxes the smooth muscles of the airways and widens them. It also blocks the release of certain chemical messengers in the airways (such as mast cells) that cause inflammation and swelling. As a result, it reduces airway inflammation, prevents the airways from becoming narrow, and allows the air to pass through more freely which makes breathing easier.

Indication of Sultolin Syrup

Sultolin Syrup is a bronchodilator medicine, used to relieve the symptoms of bronchospasm such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, breathing difficulties, coughing, etc, in respiratory diseases like bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It also relieves the symptoms of bronchitis where the walls of the airways swell, making breathing very difficult.

Pharmacology

Salbutamol is a synthetic compound that belongs to the class of beta-2 adrenergic sympathomimetic agents. Its mechanism of action involves the stimulation of beta-2 adrenergic receptors located in the bronchial smooth muscles, which results in the relaxation of the bronchial muscle fibers, leading to bronchodilation. The beneficial effect of this action can be seen in spirometric measurements, which show an improvement in pulmonary function.

Dosage of Sultolin Syrup

Children:

• 2-6 years: 2.5 ml syrup, 3-4 times daily
• 6-12 years: 5 ml syrup, 3-4 times daily
• Over 12 years: 5-10 ml syrup, 3-4 times daily (2-4 mg tablet, 3-4 times daily)

Administration of Sultolin Syrup

Take Sultolin Syrup as advised by your physician. Shake well before use. Measure the required quantity of the medicine in the measuring cup provided with this pack and consume it immediately.

Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending on your age, body weight, and disease condition.

Do not stop taking Sultolin Syrup without consulting your doctor as it may make your symptoms re-appear once again.

If you miss a dose of Sultolin Syrup, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.

Interaction

Sultolin Syrup may have interactions with certain medications, such as propranolol, clomipramine, guanethidine, methyldopa, diazepam, lorazepam, ticlopidine, allopurinol, verapamil, estrogen, progesterone, immune disorder drugs, phenobarbital, phenytoin, and cimetidine, so it's important to inform your doctor if you're taking any of these drugs. Limit your alcohol intake while taking this medication, as it can worsen the side effects like sleepiness and shakiness. Patients with conditions like gastric or peptic ulcer, sepsis, hypokalaemia, lactic acidosis, liver/kidney diseases (especially cirrhosis or hepatitis), fluid in the lungs, heart problems, overactive thyroid, and seizures should take caution and consult their doctor before using Sultolin Syrup.

Contraindications

Patients who have a known hypersensitivity to any of the components of the Salbutamol inhaler should not use this medication. While intravenous Salbutamol and Salbutamol tablets are sometimes used to manage premature labor, Salbutamol inhaler preparations are not appropriate for this purpose in cases that are not complicated by conditions such as placenta praevia, antepartum hemorrhage, or toxemia of pregnancy. Salbutamol inhaler preparations should also not be used to manage threatened abortion during the first or second trimesters of pregnancy.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Only if the possible benefit outweighs the danger to the fetus should the medication be taken during pregnancy. This medication is not known to be excreted in human milk. Because of the possibility for tumorigenicity indicated in certain animal studies for Salbutamol, a choice should be taken whether to stop breastfeeding or stop taking the medicine, taking into consideration the drug's value to the mother.

Precautions & Warnings
