How to use Amdocal 5

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Amdocal 5 may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Amdocal 5 works

Amdocal 5 is a calcium channel blocker. High blood pressure, it normalizes the blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels to reduce the pressure on them, thereby improving the blood flow in the body. In heart-related chest pain (angina), the enhanced blood flow in the body relaxes the heart muscles by reducing the workload on the heart. It also improves the oxygen flow in the body, thereby, preventing any heart-related chest pain.

What if you forget to take Amdocal 5?

If you miss a dose of Amdocal 5, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Quick Suggestions:

• Take Amdocal 5 at the same time every day to help you remember to take it.
• Amdocal 5 may cause dizziness. Do not drive or perform any activity that requires mental focus until you know how Amdocal 5 affects you.
• A sudden drop in your blood pressure may occur, especially when you first start taking Amdocal 5. To lower the chance of feeling dizzy or passing out, rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down.
• Amdocal 5 can cause ankle or foot swelling. To reduce the swelling, raise your legs while you are sitting down. Talk to your doctor if it does not go away.
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

Indications of Amdocal 5

Amlodipine Amdocal 5 Tablet is used to treat angina, high blood pressure and coronary heart disease. It is recommended in case of heart failure if other medications fail to work. Amdocal 5 Tablet is the key ingredient of this medicine. It increases myocardial oxygen delivery in patients with vasospastic angina.

Pharmacology

Amlodipine is a long-acting calcium channel blocker that inhibits the flow of calcium ions across the membrane to vascular smooth muscle and myocardium. Thus, it leads to a decrease in peripheral vascular resistance and contraction processes in the myocardium and lowers blood pressure. 

The mechanism of the antihypertensive effect is due to the direct relaxation effect on vascular smooth muscle. The exact mechanism of amlodipine to relieve angina pectoris has not been fully determined, but amlodipine reduces the total ischemic load through the following two effects:

The mechanism of action of amlodipine may also involve the expansion of the main coronary arteries and of the coronary arteries in normal and ischemic areas. This dilation increases the myocardial oxygen supply in patients with coronary artery spasms (print metals or variant angina). 

Amlodipine dilates the peripheral arterioles, thus reducing the total peripheral resistance (load after). Since the heart rate remains stable, this discharge from the heart reduces the myocardial energy consumption and oxygen demand.

Dosage & Administrations of Amdocal 5

Adults: 

• The starting dose is 5 mg once a day, and the maximum dose is 10 mg once a day.

Pediatrics: 

• The starting dose is 2.5 mg to 5 mg once a day. 
   
• Frail and Elderly patients or patients with impaired liver function:

The starting dose is 2.5 mg once a day.

Renal Dose:

• Amlodipine relaxes peripheral and coronary vascular smooth muscle. It produces coronary vasodilation by inhibiting the entry of Ca ions into the slow channels or select voltage-sensitive channels of the vascular smooth muscle and myocardium during depolarisation. It also increases myocardial oxygen delivery in patients w/ vasospastic angina.

Interaction

Amlodipine and thiazide diuretics, alpha-blockers, beta-blockers, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, long-acting nitrates, sublingual nitroglycerin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, and oral hypoglycemic agents are safely administered together. Amlodipine has no effect on the protein binding of digoxin, phenytoin, warfarin, or indomethacin. It is not recommended to administer amlodipine together with grapefruit or grapefruit juice, because the bioavailability in some patients may increase, resulting in an increased effect of lowering blood pressure

Contraindications

Patients known to be sensitive to amlodipine are contraindicated.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There is no research on adequate and sufficient exposure to amlodipine in pregnant women. AM Lodipine should only be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefits are justifying the potential risks for the fetus. It is not known if AM Lodipin was or not. If this information is not available, it is recommended that the nursing be canceled while the amlodipine is.

Precautions & Warnings

• Symptomatic hypotension is possible, especially in patients with severe aortic stenosis. However, due to the gradual onset of the effects, acute hypotension is unlikely to occur.
• After starting or increasing the dose of amlodipine, worsening angina pectoris and acute myocardial infarction may occur, especially in patients with severe obstructive coronary artery disease.
• Slow titration of calcium channel blockers in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
