How to use Acifix 20mg Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Acifix 20 is to be taken empty stomach.

How Acifix 20mg Tablet works

Acifix 20 is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which helps in the relief of acid-related indigestion and heartburn.

What if you forget to take Acifix 20?

If you miss a dose of Acifix 20, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

• Inform your doctor if you have watery diarrhea, a fever, or persistent stomach pain.
• Inform your doctor if you do not feel better after 14 days since you may be suffering from another condition that needs care.
• Long-term Acifix 20 usage can result in weak bones and a lack of minerals such as magnesium. Take calcium and magnesium supplements or calcium and magnesium supplements as directed by your doctor.
• If you experience reduced urine, edema (swelling caused by fluid retention), lower back discomfort, nausea, exhaustion, and a rash or fever, contact your doctor straight once. These could be signs of a kidney problem.

Indications of Acifix 20mg Tablet

Rabeprazole The following conditions are treated using gastro-resistant pills: 

• Active duodenal ulcers
• An active and benign gastric ulcer
• Symptomatic, erosive, or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). (GERD).
• Gastro-esophageal Reflux condition (GERD) is an esophageal and long-term planning condition. (GERD Maintenance)
• Mild to severe gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) symptomatic therapy (symptomatic GERD)
• Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
• Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in individuals with peptic ulcer disease in conjunction with proper antibiotic treatment regimens.

Pharmacology

Rabeprazole reduces stomach acid secretion by inhibiting the gastric H+/K+-ATPase at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell. Because this enzyme is assumed to be the acid (proton) pump within the parietal cell, rabeprazole has been classed as a gastric proton pump inhibitor.

Dosage & Administration of Acifix 20mg Tablet

Active Duodenal Ulcer and Active Benign Gastric Ulcer: 

• For both bioactive duodenal ulcers and active benign gastric ulcers, the suggested oral dosage is 20 mg, administered once a day in the morning. The majority of individuals with active duodenal ulcers recover within four weeks. However, some individuals may need an extra four weeks of therapy to recuperate. The majority of individuals with active benign gastric ulcers recover within six weeks. However, some individuals may require an extra six weeks of therapy to recuperate.

Erosive or Ulcerative Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): 

• The recommended oral dose for this condition is 20 mg to be taken once daily for four to eight weeks.

Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease Long-term Management (GERD Maintenance): 

• For long-term management, a maintenance dose of rabeprazole sodium 20 mg or 10 mg once daily can be used depending upon patient response.

Symptomatic treatment of moderate to very severe Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (symptomatic GERD): 

• 10 mg once daily in patients without oesophagitis. If symptom control has not been achieved during four weeks, the patient should be further investigated. Once symptoms have resolved, subsequent symptom control can be achieved using an on-demand regimen of taking 10 mg once daily when needed.

Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: 

• The suggested beginning dosage for adults is 60 mg once a day. The dose can be increased to 120 mg/day according to the needs of the particular patient. Single daily dosages of up to 100 mg/day are permissible. The 120 mg dosage may necessitate split doses of 60 mg twice daily. Treatment should last as long as is clinically required.

Eradication of H. Pylori: 

• Patients with H. pylori infection should be treated with eradication therapy. The following combination given for 7 days is recommended. Rabeprazole sodium 20 mg twice daily, clarithromycin 500 mg twice daily, and amoxicillin 1g twice daily.

Interaction of Acifix

Gastric acid secretion is profoundly and long-lastingly inhibited by respite. You may come into contact with a substance whose absorption is pH-dependent. When rabeprazole sodium is used with ketoconazole or itraconazole, antifungal plasma levels may be significantly reduced. When ketoconazole or itraconazole are used together with Respite, individual patients may need to be watched to see if a dosage adjustment is necessary. There was no interaction with liquid antacids. Atazanavir's absorption is pH-dependent. As a result, PPIs, such as rabeprazole, should not be taken with atazanavir.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or any excipient. Rabeprazole is not recommended during pregnancy or nursing.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy category 'C' according to the US Food and Drug Administration. Rabeprazole has been studied in animals, and there has been no evidence of reduced fertility or injury to the fetus as a result of its use. However, no suitable and well-controlled studies on pregnant women have been conducted. Because rabeprazole is likely to be excreted in human milk, a choice should be taken on whether to stop breastfeeding or stop taking the medication, taking into account the drug's importance to the mother.

Precautions & Warnings

Administration of Rabeprazole to patients with mild to moderate liver impairment results in increased exposure and decreased elimination. Caution should be exercised in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
