Indications of Ovacon Gold 37.5 mcg+0.75 mg:
Ovacon Gold containing Ethinylestradiol & Lynestrenol is indicated for oral contraception and prevention of pregnancy.
Therapeutic Class:
Oral Contraceptive preparations.
Pharmacology:
Ethinylestradiol, similar to estradiol, is responsible for the development and maintenance of the female reproductive system and secondary sexual characteristics. It inhibits the anterior pituitary by negative feedback effect and causes capillary dilation, fluid retention, and protein anabolism. Lynestrenol, a progestogen, may be used alone or as the progestogenic component of some oral contraceptives.
Dosage & Administration:
Take one pill daily at about the same time every day, preferably after the evening meal or at bedtime. Start each subsequent pack on the day after completing the current pack. Take one pill each day, including during menstruation. Do not discontinue taking the brown pills; they provide iron supplementation and help maintain the pill-taking routine. When the patient wishes to start menstruation, simply stop taking the tablets. Some breakthrough bleeding or spotting may occur while using the second pack. Start the next pack after the usual 7-day interval of inactive pills. Follow the advice for managing missed pills. Take extra active pills from a backup pack if vomiting occurs.
Interactions:
CYP1A2 and CYP3A4 inducers may decrease the effects of estradiol. Interaction with antibiotics, anticoagulants, antihypertensives, hypoglycemic drugs, ciclosporin, and other medications may occur.
Contraindications:
Pregnancy, cardiovascular diseases, thromboembolic disorders, severe hypertension, severe liver disease, known or suspected estrogen-dependent tumors, and endometrial hyperplasia.
Side Effects:
Nausea, vomiting, cholestatic jaundice, thrombosis, elevated blood pressure, rash, headache, migraine, mood changes, breast tenderness, pain, enlargement, and secretion.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy Category X. The risks of fetal abnormalities and/or adverse reactions outweigh potential benefits.
Precautions & Warnings:
Some medications may interfere with pill efficacy. Consult your doctor if taking antibiotics, rifampicin, or seizure medicines. Consider using another method of contraception during this time.
Storage Conditions:
Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture, and keep out of reach of children.
