Indications of Norix 1
A last-ditch method of preventing conception in the event of unprotected sexual activity is emergency contraception. After an unprotected sexual encounter, this contraceptive must be used as soon as possible, ideally within 12 hours and no later than 72 hours (3 days);
Pharmacology
By suppressing gonadotropins, oral contraceptives containing levonorgestrel reduce ovulation. Levonorgestrel slows the release of gonadotropin-releasing hormones by binding to progesterone and androgen receptors in the hypothalamus (GnRH). This process suppresses the luteinizing hormone (LH) spike that naturally occurs physiologically prior to ovulation. It stops the release of viable eggs from the ovaries and follicular rupture. Levonorgestrel has been demonstrated to be more effective when administered prior to ovulation.

Since emergency contraception does not always work to prevent pregnancy, it should only be used in extreme situations:
The associated hormonal overdose in the case of regular ingestion is not advised.
It will be unable to replace conventional contraception.
After taking Levonorgestrel, the menstrual cycle typically starts on the anticipated date; however, it can begin a few days earlier or later. It's crucial to perform a pregnancy test if there is unusual bleeding on the day of the expected period or if there is a menstrual delay of more than 5 days after taking this medication. Emergency contraception should not be used in place of taking the necessary precautions against STDs and the actions to be taken in the event of transmission risk. It is not advised to take this medication if you have had salpingitis, an ectopic pregnancy, or a severe digestive condition that interferes with medication absorption. It is advised to immediately take another Levonorgestrel tablet if vomiting occurs three hours after taking this medication.
