Folison-Z contains Folic Acid and Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate. Zinc is an essential trace element critical for human nutrition and is involved in numerous enzyme systems. Severe Zinc deficiency can result in skin lesions, hair loss, diarrhea, increased infection risk, and cognitive impairment.
Folic Acid, a B vitamin, is converted in the body to tetrahydrofolate, a coenzyme required for metabolic processes, including the synthesis of purine and pyrimidine nucleotides essential for DNA synthesis. It also plays a role in amino acid metabolism. Folic Acid deficiency can cause megaloblastic anemia due to inadequate dietary intake, malabsorption, increased utilization (e.g., during pregnancy or in hemolytic anemia), or the use of folate antagonists.

✔️ Side Effects
This combination is generally well tolerated. However, mild gastrointestinal disturbances, such as abdominal pain, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, fever, or respiratory discomfort, may occur in some cases.
✔️ Dosage & Administration
- Adults: Take 1 tablet daily or as directed by a physician.
✔️ Drug Interactions
- Excessive Calcium intake can reduce Zinc absorption.
- Certain medications, such as antiepileptics, oral contraceptives, anti-tuberculosis drugs, alcohol, methotrexate, aminopterin, pyrimethamine, trimethoprim, and sulfonamides, may lower serum folate levels.
- Folic Acid can reduce serum levels of phenytoin.
- Zinc may interact with quinolones, tetracyclines, cisplatin, penicillamine, and amiloride.
✔️ Contraindications
- Zinc is contraindicated in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to it.
- Folic Acid is contraindicated in patients with untreated cobalamin (Vitamin B12) deficiency.
✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation
This preparation is recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding as per a physician's advice.
✔️ Overdose Effects
Excessive Zinc intake can be corrosive, leading to symptoms like inflammation and irritation of the mucous membranes in the mouth and stomach.
