✔️ How does Cliomet Ear Drops work?

Clioquinol (Iodochlorhydroxyquin) is an antibiotic with additional antifungal action. It works by preventing the growth and multiplication of both bacteria and fungi.

✔️ Side Effects of Cliomet Ear Drops

Potential side effects may include a burning sensation, irritation, or rash. Discontinue treatment if serious irritation or sensitization occurs.

✔️ Quick Suggestions:

• It may cause minor burning, stinging, or irritation when applied. Inform your doctor if this does not go away.
• Do not cover the area being treated with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by a doctor, as this may increase the risk of side effects.
• If you think the area of skin you are treating has become more irritated and infected, you should stop using Clioquinol 1% + Flumetasone Pivalate and consult your doctor.
• Avoid contact with your eyes, nose, or mouth. Rinse it off with water if you accidentally get the cream in these areas.
• Don't use this medicine more often or for longer than advised by your doctor. Inform your doctor if the treated skin area does not improve after 1 week of treatment.

✔️ Indication of Cliomet Ear Drops

Cliomet 5 ml Ear Drop is indicated for the treatment of external ear inflammation and infections (otitis externa), including fungal infections of the outer ear (otomycosis).

✔️ Pharmacology

• Flumetasone Pivalate: A difluorinated glucocorticoid with potent local effects, it exhibits anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, vasoconstrictive, and anti-proliferative properties, providing immediate relief from symptoms such as itching and reducing swelling in inflammatory skin disorders of the external auditory meatus.
• Clioquinol: A bacteriostatic hydroxyquinoline derivative with halogenation, it acts against a broad spectrum of microorganisms, including fungi (e.g., Candida, Microsporum, and Trichophyton) and Gram-positive bacteria (e.g., Staphylococci), as well as some Gram-negative bacteria.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Cliomet Ear Drops

For adults and children aged 2 years and over, the recommended dose is 2 to 3 drops twice daily for the prescribed duration, usually not exceeding 10 days. Before application, warm the ear drops to body temperature by holding the bottle in your hands. Do not heat it above body temperature.

✔️ Interaction

Cliomet 5 ml Ear Drop may cause a significant increase in protein-bound iodine when used topically (PBI).

✔️ Contraindications

• Patients with a punctured eardrum
• Pre-existing TB of the skin, fungal, or viral infections of the skin (e.g., Chickenpox, Herpes simplex, Herpes zoster)
• Hypersensitivity to corticosteroids, iodine, clioquinol, flumetasone pivalate, hydroxyquinolones, quinolone derivatives, or any of the formulation's constituents.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy: No reports of harmful effects in human pregnancy; however, careful consideration of the risk-benefit ratio is advised when using during pregnancy.
• Lactation: It is unclear whether Flumetasone Pivalate or Clioquinol passes into breast milk. Use caution if breastfeeding.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• A physician should examine the eardrum before initiating therapy, and treatment should be avoided in cases of eardrum perforation.
• Discontinue therapy if no improvement is observed after approximately a week.
• Avoid contact with the conjunctiva.
