Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that is effective against a wide range of susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It may act against organisms such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus, Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus aegyptius, Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Proteus, Escherichia coli, Shigella, and Salmonella. Gentamicin works by interfering with bacterial protein production, thereby preventing bacterial growth.
Fluorometholone is a synthetic corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory properties. It helps reduce inflammation, redness, and other inflammatory symptoms in the eye.
The combination provides both antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. Gentamicin also helps control susceptible bacterial infection that could potentially worsen when a corticosteroid is used.
