Vefend 200 Tablet

Vefend is a triazole antifungal medicine used in patients aged 12 years and older to treat serious fungal infections, including:

• Invasive aspergillosis
• Candidemia (in non-neutropenic patients) and disseminated candidiasis involving the skin, abdomen, kidneys, bladder wall, or wounds
• Esophageal candidiasis
• Severe infections caused by Scedosporium apiospermum and Fusarium species, including Fusarium solani
• Fungal infections in patients who cannot tolerate or have not responded to other antifungal therapies

Oral Tablets/Suspension
Take Vefend at least 1 hour before or 1 hour after meals.

Adults and patients weighing 40 kg or more:

• Loading dose (first 24 hours): 400 mg (or 10 mL suspension) every 12 hours
• Maintenance dose: 200 mg (or 5 mL suspension) twice daily

Patients weighing less than 40 kg:

• Loading dose (first 24 hours): 200 mg (or 5 mL suspension) every 12 hours
• Maintenance dose: 100 mg (or 2.5 mL suspension) twice daily

Voriconazole has significant interactions with many medicines:

• CYP3A4, CYP2C9, and CYP2C19 inhibitors or inducers may alter Voriconazole levels, requiring dose adjustment and close monitoring.
• Vefend can increase the blood levels of medicines metabolized by these enzymes, increasing the risk of side effects.
• Higher maintenance doses of Vefend may be required when used with phenytoin or efavirenz.

Do not use Vefend if you:

• Are allergic to Voriconazole or any of its ingredients.
• Are taking medicines such as terfenadine, astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, quinidine, or sirolimus, due to the risk of serious adverse reactions.
• Are taking rifampicin, carbamazepine, long-acting barbiturates, rifabutin, ritonavir, ergot alkaloids, St. John's Wort, or certain doses of efavirenz, as these may significantly reduce the effectiveness of Voriconazole.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

• Blurred vision
• Headache
• Abdominal pain
• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Anemia
• Chest pain

• There is limited information on the safety of Voriconazole during pregnancy. It should only be used if the expected benefit outweighs the potential risk to the unborn baby.
• Consult your doctor before using this medicine during breastfeeding.
• Long-term use (more than 180 days) requires regular evaluation of the benefits and risks.
• Prolonged treatment has been associated with an increased risk of squamous cell carcinoma of the skin.
• Regular monitoring may be needed during extended therapy.
• Store tablets in a dry place below 25°C, protected from light.
• Store the powder for suspension at 2°C–8°C before reconstitution.
• Keep all forms of the medicine out of the reach of children.
