✔️ How does Rabix IG work?

Human Rabies Immunoglobulin is generally given with vaccines. Human Rabies Immunoglobulin contains chemicals that protect the patient against infections.

✔️ Side Effects of Rabix IG

• Immediate: Hypotension, dyspnea, urticaria.
• Delayed: Inflammation, fever, pruritis, rash, adenopathy, arthralgia.

✔️ Quick Suggestions:

• Rabix IG protects you against rabies after you have been bitten, scratched, or injured by a suspected animal with rabies.
• It is given with the first dose of rabies vaccine, or not more than 7 days after the scratch or injury.
• It is given by injection around the wound and into the muscle at the side of the thigh (intramuscular).
• Protects you against rabies after you have been bitten, scratched, or received any injury from a suspected animal with rabies.

✔️ Indication of Rabix IG

• For prevention of rabies in individuals exposed to the virus, particularly in severe cases such as:
  • Multiple percutaneous bites or scratches
  • Contaminated mucous membranes with saliva
  • Severe bites on the face, head, neck, and hands
  • Unexamined or suspected rabid animals
  • Bites in young children
• Provides passive immunity and must be used with a rabies vaccine.

✔️ Pharmacology

• Offers passive protection against rabies.
• Two types: Human Rabies Immunoglobulin (HRIG) and Equine Rabies Immunoglobulin (ERIG).
• HRIG is preferred due to its derivation from hyperimmunized human plasma.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Rabix IG

• First-Aid Treatment: Immediate and thorough washing of bite wounds with soap and water.
• Dosage: 40 IU/kg body weight for both adults and children.
  • Infiltrate as much as possible around and into the wound.
  • Remainder administered intramuscularly (gluteal region).
• Children: May require dilution with sodium chloride for adequate infiltration.
• Combined Treatment: Administer rabies vaccine and immunoglobulin at different body sites. Rabies Immunoglobulin can be given up to 7-8 days after the first vaccine dose if not initially available.
• WHO Recommendations:
  • Touching or feeding animals, licks on intact skin: No treatment if history is reliable.
  • Minor scratches, superficial bites, and licks on broken skin: Administer vaccine on Days 0, 3, 7, 14, and 28.
  • Severe bites or mucous membrane contamination: Administer vaccine on Days 0, 3, 7, 14, and 28 (or Day 90 optional) and Rabies Immunoglobulin immediately.

✔️ Interaction

Allergic reactions to equine proteins may occur, but rabies risk outweighs contraindications.

✔️ Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to quetiapine.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

• Rabies vaccine and immunoglobulin should be administered at different anatomical sites.
• Avoid corticosteroids as they suppress the immune response.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Do not administer intravenously due to shock risk.
• Avoid repeated doses of rabies immunoglobulin after vaccination has started.
• Ensure the needle does not pierce a blood vessel.
• Shake well before use, but avoid vigorous shaking.

✔️ Storage Conditions:

• Store at +2°C to +8°C.
• Protect from light.
• Do not freeze.
• Keep out of reach of children.
