✅ Description:

Cefixime, a semisynthetic third-generation cephalosporin, inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell death. It maintains strong resistance against beta-lactamase degradation, rendering it effective even against some resistant bacterial strains. Bioavailability is approximately 40–50%, regardless of food intake.

3RD Cef is prescribed for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible microorganisms, including:

  • Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI): Otitis media and other infections, particularly where resistance to standard antibiotics or treatment failure poses a significant risk.
  • Lower Respiratory Tract Infections: Including bronchitis.
  • Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) include cystitis, cystourethritis, and pyelonephritis.

It is effective against pathogens such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, S. pyogenes, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella spp., Haemophilus influenzae (both beta-lactamase positive and negative), Moraxella catarrhalis, and Enterobacter spp.
